Wendy's customers ask 'Where's the beef?' as restaurants remove menu items. o_O

Fast-food chain Wendy's is taking burgers off the menu in some locations as the U.S. deals with a meat shortage traced back to the coronavirus.

In addition, Wendy's rival McDonald's said its Canadian locations would have to import some beef instead of sourcing it from Canada because of meat plant closures including Cargill's Alberta, Canada, plant.

Not sure how to say it in Chinese, here goes here kity kity.

Oh good I’ve stumbled across the casual racism thread. Perhaps instead we should be drawing the parallel of wet markets to our own meat processing plants with inadequate health and safety measures.

Casual racism thread? :ponder:

What are you talking about?
You really ought to explain yourself when you make a post like that....

Perhaps I came of as more confrontational than intended. Like many, I do enjoy a good burger. My intention was more to draw attention to the fact that a lot like the Chinese our North American meat processing practices have flaws as well. We should also be talking about how a largely immigrant workforce are packed shoulder to shoulder with insufficient PPE in meat processing plants, they've been strong-armed to continue working in unsafe working conditions, and meat processing plants have become hotbeds for Covid-19 outbreaks.

The fact is, like many other hazardous and exhausting low-wage industries in the United States, this work depends on the labor of America’s most marginalized communities. Is that, in and of itself, racism? Depending on how one defines "racism", perhaps. Most seem to work at these plants simply because there are no other jobs available.

Let me ask you, what should these plants do to correct the problem? You must consider the costs involved in making any changes and how that will affect the costs the consumer, like you, pay. Given the current situation with the virus, there are no easy answers. Should we close all the plants? Should we correct and redesign the plants? Should we reduce the workforce? Anything done may cause people to lose their jobs, their homes, their insurance, etc. These individuals should be able to decide for themselves which choice to make.

This can grow very quickly into a contentious social issue, so proceed with caution.

I just went to the grocery and they have signs limiting meat purchase to 2 packages of beef or pork. They still had corned beef on sale from St Paddys day, I got a nice piece for $5. It cooks nice in my instapot, yum. Cinco de Paddys tacos anyone?

No meat shortage here. Buying from local ranchers.

No. You went looking for a fight.

It's not a fact that Chinese wet markets are a lot like a U.S. meat processing facility. If you want to believe that, it's your choice. But it's just not true.
