So, you think Maui needs FOUR Starwood timeshares and you want the next one to be on the busiest part of the beach?????

The Sheraton Maui hotel is a dump and a waste of space.
The location is wonderful and near all the shops and restaurants.
The beach is not the busiest as it is at the end of the walk.

Wow...we stayed in the Sheraton about 10 years ago when it had been recently remodeled. I thought it was a very nice resort. The pool was great, etc.. The restaurants aren't great. So I can't imagine that it has gotten dumpier in the last 10 years. I've walked through the grounds and they still look nice to me.

Now, the Sheraton at Poipu that is a dump. It hasn't been remodeled in forever.

The photo below 'DavidnRobin' is from the lanai from our room at the Sheraton Poipu - we enjoyed staying there - and especially the free MaiTai happy hour at sunset... certainly not a dump.

Okay, I'll chime in here...

- Whistler
- Mammoth
- Lake Tahoe
- Many city locations: San Francisco, Seattle, New York, DC, Boston, London, Florence, Vienna, Jerusalem, Berlin
- UK (deserves several resorts, in my opinion)
- Greece
- Australia
- New Zealand
- I could go on...

I am all for more carribean resorts, but it seems that between harborside, st john, aruba and cancun we are pretty well represented on carribean resorts at this time, plus there is speculation on another Bahamas resort. IMO to add more carribean without adding a california beach resort and a Tahoe resort would be a bad move. From time to time I consier buying a marriott or a Hyatt timeshare and the only reasons are so cal beach and tahoe.

Not on the east coast, but I agree...

Not part the SVO (but would like to be), but our vote would be for more Caribbean resorts also.

Maybe then we could actually get an exchange there. :D

Oh, I didn't mean the view was a dump. But have you ever stayed in a room across the street. They aren't exactly updated. They are very, very old. JMHO ;)

I meant that the hotel was not a dump - it just wasn't. We were in 2 locations at the hotel. By the pool, and then we moved to the OF rooms (because I don't care for the lovely pitch that children let out when they are having fun) - being December - it was not crowded. I didn't go across the street to look at the IV rooms - but no where that we saw had any 'dumpiness'. It certainly was not up to the standards of a Westin, but it is a Sheraton afterall - and it was not only fine, but we loved our time there.

Especially considering that we got $200 in food credit ($100 for going and $100 for sitting thru the TS presentation), a free car rental, and stayed in an OF room for 5 nites and the pool room for 1 nite - for about $575 - that was easily less than $40 per nite (BARGAIN!).

You can argue the merits and faults of the Sheraton Kauai until you're blue in the face. Consensus on flyertalk is that it two different resorts, depending on which side of the road you are on. Ocean side is almost universally loved. Garden wing is almost universally hated. I stayed in the Garden Wing about a year and a half ago and tend to agree. My room was reminiscent of a Red Roof Inn I visited many years back. Stale, tired, worn, tiny bathroom, etc... Main buildings and beach were great, as was the breakfast (which is no longer included in the resort fee), but the Garden Wing doesn't cut it as a Sheraton, Westin, or 4 Points for that matter. It generates a second class citizen feeling rivaled only by guests in the Sheraton Waikiki Manor Wing.

Collective wisdom on this one is if you're going to stay there, do whatever it takes (money, points, flirting) to ensure you are in the ocean wing and you'll probably be pretty happy. Take your chances on the garden wing and you'll be greeted with an "I told you so" upon returning to the boards...:D

In other words, I think you're both right.

Thanks for clearing that up. To me that's what makes it a dump. I didn't realize the rooms across the street were better. I just always felt how could they make the lobby and pool so nice but our room was so dumpy. It was a real turn off to return from the beach and then, have to face your room.
