Kind of a last minute trip to Colorado. Will be there 2 weeks. Week one is in Breckridge with my dear wife. Week 2 (June 4-11), she flies back from Denver and 2 of my sons (age 20 and 23) fly in. We have a reservation for a second week in Breckenridge as they have never been to Colorado, but wonder if Vail, Telluride or someplace else might be a better option. Think I prefer to be in one location than jumping around this trip. Appreciate your input.

Depends on what activities you/your sons most enjoy? Each area you mentioned is wonderful but some are stronger than others for mountain biking, river rafting, sailing, climbing, events. Also might add Steamboat to the consideration list.

Estes Park! Spend some days in Rocky Mt National Park.
Great suggestion. Tough to get accommodations though. And of course the park needs to be open. Sometimes it closes even that late spring/ early summer.

Our drive last summer was pretty uneventful. Didn't even see Bighorn Sheep on the top of the mountain. I was surprised.

Breckenridge has the Fun Park which none of the other locations have. There is fishing at Dillon reservoir and along the Blue River. You could drive over to Vail, rent bikes and bike up Vail Pass as far as you want (there is a separate bike path all the way over Vail Pass), then coast back to town, or do a round of golf.

Leadville, CO is a short drive away. Rent bikes there and take the trail around the town. There is a lot of mining history.

Steamboat Springs, CO is a scenic 2 hours away. The second week of June would be prime time to rent tubes (get there early, by 11 a.m.) in town and float the Yampa River, or take a raft trip. There are the in-town hot springs and an extensive mountain bike trail system just west of the Yampa River.

Just a caution about Steamboat Springs. There’s a massive amount of construction going on all summer including moving a chairlift, removing another, installing a second gondola and constructing two new buildings, all at the Base.

The Rest of the area in town, etc is still worthwhile but if you’re looking to enjoy the main mountain, the construction is a possible major drawback.

Here’s some live cams showing the base area.

Cheers

If you are going to be here two weeks, suggest you consider a trip over to Grand Junction and Moab. This would include a tour through the Colorado National Monument, Arches National Park and the Canyon Lands. Take Hwy 128 in Utah and you will drive along the Colorado River to get to Moab. Very scenic. If you are a hiker, there are some amazing hikes in both places. If you are a thrill taker, check out Shafer Trail for an amazing drive. Suggest you check out the AllTrails app.

Thank you for all the suggestions. Looked at Esites early on and accommodations are very limited. Looking for a good range of things to do. We are renting a Jeep and will be doing some excursions on smaller roads. Going to the western part of the state has great appeal to me, but want them to get an experience of the Rockies. This is their first trip to seeing them.

#1 tip: Since you will taking in all of the beautiful scenery while you are driving, while you are on two-lane mountain roads PLEASE use the turn-out areas to give the line of vehicles behind you the opportunity to pass you. It is CO state law, plus it reduces road rage and is just the polite thing to do.

Also, consider taking a drive to the top of Mount Evans. Its the highest paved road in North America, used to be in the world.

While in Breckenridge, a drove over Borreas Pass is worthwhile. Also the South Park Museum in FairPlay is worth a few hours.

Dinosaur National Park is great. It's a distance from Breck, but another idea.

Steamboat has a wonderful amusement park, so does Glenwood Springs. No timeshares in Glenwood.

Avon is too close to Breck to be "different" from Breck.

About a 40 min drive from Breckenridge is a little town called Georgetown. Really nice Victorian homes, plus it is the starting point for the Georgetown Loop Railroad. You can ride a steam-powered train to the town of Silver Plume and back over a very unique rail line that loops over itself in order to gain the elevation needed in the narrow valley. It is really quite fun and the scenery is fantastic. Well worth spending a portion of a day there.

Kurt, that bridge always scares me. It's a short ride.

If you’re talking about the Mountain Coaster and Minature Golf Course at the base of the mountain, there’re both gone. Victims of the redevelopment of the Base.

Cheers

From Breckenridge to Leadville, Independence Pass, Aspen, Glenwood Springs and back on I90 thru Glenwood Canyon is really scenic drive. If you decide to stay in Winter Park area, Rocky Mountain NP is accessible from Grand Lake, or day trip to Steamboat Springs is also easy.

I had no idea. I am glad we got to do that last summer. It was a lot of fun.
