Hi,
Thank you for all the tips and information all of you input to TUG.
I am looking to purchase a 1 bedroom somewhere that I can trade every year.
I have seen free purchases and some for more. I have seen maintenance fees from $25- over $1000.
Does it matter where my resort is located if I am planning on trading every year? My brother had a place at a 5 star resort and he was able to trade regularly.
He never used points.
Do the points matter?
Thank you for your assistance.
Kathy

Kathy,

this would be a good thread to post in to get some input from other owners on what might work best for you

My thought is you need to think about what you want..
Trades are never 100%.. Cash always exchanges.

I like HGVC, but that's because I like the options. The cost is higher than $100/night generally and I wouldn't call it 5 star... Maybe 3.5 at 4 star locations....

You really need to spend time to understand how this game works and see if it is worth your time. I suspect it is, but that's not my call.

Some things to consider. Where do you live? Where do you want to go? There are costs for EVERY trade. Internal trades (within ONE TS 'family' Wyndham. HGVC. DVC, etc.) than using an exchange company (II or RCI) Some are 'pure points'- that use their own points (nobody knows what one is worth), and some use a like-for-like equation to value their trades.

I see you're a Member (Thank You), so you've read all this before. Just keep it up and ask questions. Remember, what TSs are free are not always worth the price and some that cost many hundred$ a year are bargains. It all depends on what works for you.

We started out with a one bedroom in Vermont in 1981 and it was a good trader. You don’t say where you live but if you are going to just trade that doesn’t really matter. I’ve owned ten different timeshare weeks not all at the same time, but now just have one. I’m tempted to buy, but better at my age to rent or do extra vacation.
Let us know where you decide to buy.
Safe travels!
