Where should HGVC build or buy new resorts?

Thought of this because there is a grand old hotel resort in the San Juan Islands which needs to be rescued. It would be a wonderful resort six+ months of the year, attract a ton of well heeled heels, er, buyers from the affluent Seattle tech scene, and expand HGVC or bHC's geographic reach. November through March would be harder to fill but if the resort had a good enough spa and restaurant there are plenty of folks who would be interested at gold season rates.

Anyway, below is my dream list of locations. If they added these I'd definitely buy more points. As it is I'm exploring a fractional club in Europe because it seems unlikely I'll ever have access through HGVC.

more ski resorts - Bend/Bachelor, something in Wyoming or Montana, Whistler outside of Embarc, or more Colorado or Utah options. Jackson WY is popular summer and winter and is the perfect setup.

N American cities - Vancouver outside of Embarc, Boston

Europe - London, Paris, Rome for sure. Cote d'Azure and Bordeaux region maybe. These are all year round destinations.

How about you? where would you like to see a future HGVC development?

I've become rather enamored of the bHC HGVC locations and bought at W57 and the Quin and loved staying at Liberty Place in Charleston. But the newer bHC resorts such as Liberty Place and the Elara have neither a "Home Resort Priority" nor a "By Hilton Club Priority" reservation window. So I have no interest in buying at either since the cheapest points in the HGVC system have the same reservation windows as actual owners.

So while I echo your interest in Vancouver, Boston, London, Paris, Rome, etc. I have no confidence that HGV will do the right thing and make them more accessible to bHC owners than everyone else.

I generally would like more international locations, though not bHC ones. I'd be OK with Studios / 1BR sort of things in cities, IF they provided 2 beds. Europe for sure.

I agree that I would like more urban destinations with the studios or 1 bedrooms with two beds. We like Staybridge (1 bedroom with 2 beds) and Home2Suites (studio with 2 beds) when we go to cities for this reason. Specific locations: London, Berlin, Switzerland, Boston... I'm pretty flexible but I want options for sure.

I think I'd rather Bourgogne than Bordeaux. Alsace. Barcelona.
Kyoto ... oh, wait. That was a smart move. I was surprised they made such an "Exactly!" move. They prob surveyed their Japanese membership. speaking of Japan, anybody heard of Sasebo. That could be quite popular.

Imo, the ideal 1 bedroom layout for urban destinations would mirror the recent DVC renovations. A full bedroom, and then a murphy bed that pulls down over the couch, plus a fold out sleeper chair. I'd be willing to give up quite a bit of kitchen to have 2 sleeping surfaces in the living room, especially in big cities where restaurants are part of the attraction.

Yes, I agree.
If they're going to build more urban destinations then provide rooms with two queen beds (not two twin beds or two double beds).
Ideally half the units with two queen beds and the other half with a king bed plus sofa/murphy bed

Based on the point cost for most of their Japan properties, I’m probably not as interested in this as I should be.

Agree Barcelona or Madrid would be great.

Agreed. They should consider destinations that have international appeal.
Maybe something like Hapimag, but better and bigger.
The issue is these ideas take a recession where someone has $$$ to pull it off or the USD is strong and an existing opportunity by having an existing resort type place or a hotel to reposition.

I love the Elara, but I will only stay there for a couple of days at a time. How can you find a place someone wants to stay a week? .....

Also if cheap places to stay are there, what's the point?

PS- If I was paid 7 figures, I'd figure it out.... :)

I like to stay on ski trips such as Breckenridge, Ocean Oak (Hilton Head, Cabo and Hawaii for at least a week.

IMO...they are going to have their hands full for the next few years with the BG acquisition.

But while we are dreaming...

Although this would not be a regular destination for us due to the distance, another resort in Hilton Head may be warranted give the high HGVC demand for Ocean Oak.

I would also love a resort in Barcelona.

WRT Europe, in Max there are resorts outside of Paris and near Nice already. I wouldn't complain if they added some in other parts of Italy. On the other hand, I have access to lots of availability in Europe via ThirdHome using a Marbrisa week (amongst other relatively inexpensive TS) - I've got an agriturismo in Tuscany booked next September (7 BR) and a flat in Paris. Last year I had two weeks in Venice in a 1 BR flat, one week on the Costa del Sol with a view of Gibraltar and Africa in a 4 BR, and one week in Aups in Provence in a 4 BR farmhouse. While having access within the HGVC system to these types of spots would be a welcome addition, I'm doing okay using an exchange and not waiting for a short term booking window for the dregs to open as has been my overall impression with Max. I don't really see HGV investing in building a new set of resorts in Europe and just adding them whole cloth into HGVC - I could see them buying an existing set and adding them to Max but that's got known issues.

I would love to know more about ThirdHome. I looked into them once and should again.

It would be Anaheim/Orange County for me. Disney for most people but for me I visit family 20+ weekends a year.

I think this would be a very good option.

Ideally they could buy the Anaheim hotel (corner of Harbor and Disney Way) and replace it with a tower resort. Walk to DL and adjacent to the Garden walk mall.

blue green and diamond are kind of down market and i wish they'd go up . Embarc is great but we really don't have access even in max (I've never seen a week at any of the resorts i've checked).

Completely agree with you on that. The sales folks had been saying there would be a partnership of sorts with Quintess as the homes and villas access when they were working on Max - them or any of the higher end groups would be nice.

More exotic locations for sure. I know why they keep building in the same overbuilt places, because it is easier and more cost effective to manage multiple offerings in the same place. They provide economies of scale for their operations, but offer the same old same old for us members. Look at Vegas, Myrtle Beach, Orlando, NYC, Hawaii, even Scotland to some extent. Most of these have 3, 4 or more locations to offer.

I wish there were more Caribbean or other exotic beachy (and thus scuba diving) locations.

You are depositing a Marbrisa week into Thirdhome?

I’d love to see:
  • Nashville
  • Boston
  • Downtown Denver (Union Station area)
  • Seattle
  • Generally more CA
  • Texas Hill Country

And of course more city center Europe as many others have mentioned
