Where can I find information on how many RCI points are needed per destination? I am trying to figure out how many points I should aim to buy for a family of 4 (2 adults;2 kids (7 and 10),

There is no such list, because the point 'cost' varies by not only just unit size, but by season and by how long it is before check-in. Hypothetically, say a 2 bedroom middle-of-the-line unit in Summer season might have a 'value' of 60,000 RCI Points if booked a year before move-in. That same reservation might 'cost' 40,000 RCI Points to book in May or September, or 25,000 RCI Points in the off season. And if it's still vacant 45 days before move-in, it might be either 7,500 points or even a 'last call' for under $300 cash for the week.

Since you have to buy into an RCI Points resort to acquire the points, if you buy the size and quality of resort you expect to use for your family, when you exchange the points you get for a different, but more-or-less equal property, it should be an equivalent 'cost', plus the exchange fee that EVERY Points exchange costs (currently near $300).

In other words, don't expect to buy a 1 BR unit in 'mud season' at 'Podunk Arms' resort and trade it into a 2 bedroom Disney property in high season. It won't happen. However, you might own a higher end resort property in High season and get multiple exchanges from it if you want to- or save up 'extra' Points to use later. You can also 'borrow' from upcoming years points at your home resort as long as the annual MF is paid ahead.

Hope this clarifies it some.

Yes, this helps. So is Massanutten high end enough in red season to get into high end resorts everywhere?

It's called RCI Points Directory. Here is the catch. In order to view it you have to purchase it through the RCI website. Log onto your RCI account, click my account, click purchase directory, and follow the prompt to make a payment for purchase. They will mail you a copy of it. In Canada it cost $12.95. Previously we could just download it for free from the website but RCI being the money hungry people they are, they have now decided that it's all about profit not customer service. I'm sure it wouldn't take much effort in RCI to allow customers to view or download it. I have a .pdf saved from 2013/14 that I use. I tried to attach it to this forum but apparently it's too large a file. If you want me to send it to you just send me a message. Hopefully this helps you and all of the TUGG guests out there.

Point costs vary depending on destination, room size, how early or late you book and if RCI has a "sale" on the point costs.

You also have to factor in how many weeks you want to travel and how flexible you are.

For example, we have 98K RCI points and over the years it has translated into two weeks a year. Some weeks are cheap, some cost more.

Of course, I could book a stay for the full 98K points, but I never have.

You can look at point charts, but until you start using RCI it's kind of hard to get a perfect outlook on how many points you will need ahead of time.

One advantage your family will have is the ability to book 1BRs and be comfortable. We prefer 2BR units that cost more points.

Hello, We just bought a weeks timeshare from an individual who had converted the weeks into points using RCI. We didn't know this until we received the final paperwork after buying the weeks. We have always traded weeks and not points and only have a weeks trading account. I chatted online with RCI but they will not give me trading power information until I open a new account for trading points. The paperwork says the points from the last deposit were 70,000. I followed the link above to see the RCI points but the info was from 2021. I'm wondering if there is a more undated list of RCI points? Thank you

Also if exchanging from your Home Timeshare Organization it will greatly vary. A 2 bedroom at Bali Hai might be 10,000 Worldmark Credits per week but 150,000 Points from a different Timeshare organization.

The information I wrote about points is still accurate.

Points are points, there is no trading value other than the points required to book a resort. You can use your 70K points to get anything available in RCI so long as you have enough points. The most expensive resorts I have ever seen were a shade over 100K points in Hawaii. You could potentially book that using your current year and future year points.

Where points really shine is for shopping for bargains and getting more vacations, especially if you are not picky and can stay in a 1BR.

For example, you can find weeks for 6,500 or 7,500 points. So you could book 9 weeks or more of vacations. You would pay an exchange fee every time, however.

For peak times and newer resorts, 70K may not be enough for a 2BR, but probably a 1BR. However, you can use future year points to save up for a more expensive points stay.

The link may not be your best way to use RCI.
First, the seller should be able to tell you how many points that account gets. Also, you may be able to allow the unit to revert back to weeks but be careful, you may find more value in points than in weeks.
Also, you don't have to pay extra. One RCI membership fee covers both points and weeks so you will have two accounts but pay one membership fee.
