....does it come back immediately or is there a 10 or 15 minute delay?

I have released some days in lagoon tower units during July 4th holiday. It was just two days and it never showed back up online. This was more than 50 days before check in so no one could grab 2 nights without having July 3rd already.

I wanted to juggle some point usage around. I had two reservations that I wanted to keep, but to switch points on.

I had a 2 day reservation at W57 that just used 2019 points, and I had a Christmas booking for Hawaii that I am now not sure I will use, that used all my remaining 2019 Saved points. I wanted to use the saved for a known vacation, and keep my 2019 points for the maybe Christmas week. Since this is a 7 night book I do not have a reservation fee, but I did with my W57th and I didn't want to pay to cancel it but rather wanted to change it.

Since changing W57 is a crap shoot, as you get errors, I figured I had to call. I did find a nice Elite rep to just cancel and rebook both bookings.

I had tried it myself but failed....I found online that the Christmas week I canceled took about 15 minutes to come back online but that the VC had it immediately on their end. So I got both reservations back exactly the same, but with the point usage shuffled.

Thank you HGVC.

I found that it takes between 5-15 minutes to show back up after cancelling online. At least that is my experience.

Recently I realized I had 1 more day than I needed. I canceled (actually I moved it to another date and timeshare and moved it back in about 3 minutes). But this was only a couple of days before check in. Other times the unit has reappeared in about 6-10 minutes. Other times it didn’t reappear ever when I did it in the middle of the night.

My rule of thumb is if I can’t risk losing it, don’t mess with it.

Prior to the recent stays at Bay Club and later Grand Waikikian, I had 220 points in the balance for this year. To make the two reservations, I had borrowed points from next year. I did not mind throwing 220 points away. But I realized that I could use them by canceling one night at Grand Waikikian and booking it back. After canceling one night out of four, my fourth day did not show up on the screen for my rebooking.

Before making the change, I had made sure that the website did not show any availability for open and club season around my reservation. Someone else might have immediately taken and added the day I canceled to his/her reservation; this was the only case when my fourth day was really gone. I thought it was unlikely. So it was an online booking but I called Member Services. Fortunately, the day I canceled was sitting in the system. So I was able to take it back and to use the 220 points. There was no charge for the service.

For the next time, would I do the same thing? Not sure.

Someone else reported the same issue a while back. For me, I no longer do these types of transactions (cancel and rebook) online. I call it in. I will adjust days, if the online system allows me. But I do have to adjust points usage in my reservations (which like I said, I call those in).
