When does II exchange show at DVC?

Can anyone tell me when II exchange info shows up at the DVC resorts? We have exchanged for a unit at SSR in March and I would like to request a particular area but don't know when I am able to do that. I know when we have exchanged with Marriotts they generally said no more than one week before arrival. Thanks!

You want to call Disney (at whatever number you have been given to pay the $95 fee) and put in your request right away. The request won't be sent to Room Scheduling until about a week or so before check-in, but I believe earlier requests get higher priority.

Or you could call RCI as they will be handling all future DVC exchanges... hehehe... I just couldn't resist!

Don't take my advice OP, I'm just being silly. :hysterical:

You can call any time. You wlll need the Disney reservation number---it is on the upper right-hand side of your confirmation. I want to say it's 12 digits long, but don't quote me.

When I went to old Key West in October I requested a particular area when I first called to set up the Magical Express way in advance, and then I called again a week or so ahead of time. My request was honored, though that may have more to do with the fact that we arrived at about 11 am.

When I was at SSR last year I had not requested an area in advance, but was able to get the area I wanted when I checked in - that time not until after 9 pm. They offered me one unit first but when I said I would prefer a different area they found me one there instead. It's a big resort.

Has anyone done an II to DVC exchange lately to know when they receive the exchange information? I just called DVC Member Services to add a room preference and the woman said that the reservation number that I have is still in the DVC member's name and that I need to call Interval and have them switch it to my name. But my guess is that Interval waits until a week or two before the date of travel to do that, which was the case when we exchanged into a Marriott.

That was not my experience this fall. I called to set up my Magical Express service at least two months in advance for my trip in October, and the DVC Member services had the reservation in my name at that time.

That's strange...I get so frustrated trying to deal with exchanges! I just called II and the woman didn't have any idea when it would show up at Disney. She said that as soon as the exchange is made they send the information to Disney, so it should be in our name. But the person I spoke with at DVC was very clear that I needed to call II and ask them to call DVC and have it switched to our name. I guess I'll just have to call back after the holidays and see what answer I get!

If you call the "800" number on your II confirmation about a week after you receive the confirmation, DVC Member Services will have your name associated with the exchange reservation. You don't have to wait until "until a week or two before the date of travel" to do so.

DVC Member Services will need the 12-digit reservation number (which now begins with a 3) from your confirmation.

DVC Member Services can add requests. As with other timeshares, the more requests you make, the less likely they'll be able to satisfy those requests, especially if you're an exchange guest.

You can add the Disney Dining Plan, which I don't recommend. However, some people love nailing down their dining cost ahead of time and then trying to get their money's worth from the plan.

You can also reserve Disney's Magical Express service, which provides free roundtrip airport transportation and free inbound luggage transfers. It's a terrific service.

I'm not surprised that the II person is not familiar with how things work within DVC's system.

When you call DVC Member Services, follow the prompts as though you are a DVC member wanting to make a World Passport Collection reservation. (There are no prompts for someone trading in to DVC.) If it's been more than a week since you received your confirmation and the DVC agent still doesn't see your name, ask for a supervisor. If you're once again told that you need to call II, suggest to the DVC supervisor that DVC needs to call II on your behalf because II can't help you, and that you'll stay on the line while he or she calls.

Good luck! Enjoy your DVC resort stay. Be glad you confrmed the exchange before DVC switches to RCI on January 1, 2009.

Thanks so much for all of the great information!! I love this board and how helpful people are! I received our confirmation on 11/26 which was a week ago yesterday. I think I will try again next Monday and see what response I get! But I appreciate the information on timeframes and want to be sure that it is all set before the end of the year when things switch (apparently) to RCI. Thanks again!

I just did 2 in November and have 1 coming in January. For one in November and one in January DVC was able to look up the ressie number about 3 months before for November and 5 months for January.

BUT - one of the Nov units didn't show (still in another name). Ran around with II for about 3 days and got the we don't give the resort the name until
2 weeks before time. (that is nice - but how come DVC has my other weeks). Well - another call to DVC.....this time I had them search by my name - BINGO the ressie showed up. For some reason II gave me and them completly different ressie #s.

Try to call DVC and have them search that way - it did take about 4 days after my trade for them to have my info.

Sometimes, if your first call to Disney does not succeed, calling again to get a different representative is most helpful. I call this "Cast Member Roulette."

I have also found that DVC has "II specialist". Some of the CMs don't have access to the II stuff on their computer - some do.

Whenever I call DVC - I always tell the CM I am trading in from II and usually get transfered to an II person.
