Probably everything costs more in the Caribbean except local fish .... and maybe rum

Cost of Beef is going to continue to increase. The increases are not going to the Rancher but the Meat Packers and other Middle Men. Ranchers are cutting the size of their herds because of lack of good grasslands for grazing and costs of hay and supplemental feeds.

I am adding a lot more bread crumbs, oats, beans in recipes with ground beef. I only like using 90% or more lean. Usually angus.

The price of beef is off the charts. Good thing we don’t eat a lot of it, but then again most poultry, fish and other foods are expensive as well. Pork is the most reasonable, but I don’t like eating a lot of that either.

It definetely is more expensive than previous, but I find that Food Eporium in Marlboro, NJ often has weekend sales of 80/20 ground beef for $3.99/lb.

They also have bone-in prime NY strips for $9.99/lb and prime filet Mignon for $15.99/lb on sale all the time.

Personally, we use ground turkey all the time (even when more expensive than beef) because it is more lean and no-one can tell the difference.

Oh I can tell the difference, but I like ground turkey for meatloaf and meatballs. Not crazy about the burgers for some reason. But I buy turkey tenderloins and the bone on breasts if I can get them. I used to love the boneless turkey rolls, but I can’t seem to find them anywhere.

I like turkey more than chicken and it’s healthier for you they say.
