At the beginning of the year, we owned two Marriott units (Waiohai and Kauai Beach Club) that were enrolled in the DC and worth a combined 8450 DC points. That equals Executive status and we paid the requisite fee for the year.

We since sold the KBC unit (to Marriott actually, on a pre-Covid ROFR) but retained our reservation for this December. That puts us at under 7000 DC points.

Well, we're not going to Hawaii this December due to Covid. We intend to cancel the reservation more than 60 days in advance and deposit it into Interval.

My questions are whether this KBC unit is still part of my Marriott ownership -- including the ability to use the "free" corporate Interval account? And am I still "Executive" until year end?

The KBC should still be enrolled and show up in your corporate II account, as does the Waiohai at this point. If neither are there you'll need to allow time to get them added by Marriott. I did this dance last year for some weeks that weren't in II, as I never traded them. Took two weeks and way too many phone calls, but finally got them listed.

I assume your status will change as you dropped under 7000 points, but should be in 2021, since you retained 2020 usage.

Switching gears. I hit titanium Bonvoy. Free night award or 5 suite nights? Thoughts?

I'd go with the free night. The suite nights can be difficult to use (you have to have an upgrade available for each night of the stay) and are largely up to the discretion of the property. Most times when I have tried to use them it hasn't gone through. Last year I ended up having three expire because I saved them for aspirational upgrades that never occurred.

At the hotels where I haven't used them, I've been given sweet upgrades because of my titanium status (St. Regis in Macau was the best).

I was thinking 40% off a new st Regis mattress

LOL - I did that last year. I love those mattresses!

Congrats on titanium BTW.

Thank you!! I don’t need a new mattress but the st Regis mattresses are some of the better they offer correct? Are they brand new? So that of the night?

They are brand new (who would want a used mattress (ewww!) I would probably take the free night if I didn't need a new mattress, but it was actually my 50-night platinum choice that I selected the free mattress. For my 75 night award I picked the free night.

I screwed up my 50 night award. I didn’t think I would be staying this many nights, I picked 5 nights with the intention to find 3 nights to reach titanium. Ended up adding another week in Aruba leaving me to not need those 5 nights. I thought I’d be scrambling to book 3 nights somewhere by year end to hit it. Oh well. I think I’ll take the “night”

You got the st Regis bed? Is it soft?

I still haven’t pulled the trigger on my 50 night award. Currently sitting at 66 nights (with less than $600 spend!). I have 7 more nights booked with Vistana this year - so only need two more nights. Should be easy to pick up those once our workplace ban on out of province travel is lifted. Worst case I burn a couple of free night certs they I have.

And yes, the St. Regis bed is lovely! I think I picked it for my 2018 or 2019 50 night selection (I bought it in 2019 but can’t remember if the discount choice was from 2018 - I think I hit platinum in late February last year thanks to a double-night promotion and the 15 free CC nights).

Yeah I’m contemplating. I don’t really need a new mattress so I think the free night may be the winner

Don't you already get five suite night awards at Platinum? Why add five more at titanium? The free neight is a better award IMO.

I didn’t pick the 5 suite nights. I picked 5 elite thinking I would be just short of titanium at the end of the year. Adding the second week at MSU put me over. Was wondering if the suite upgrades were worth it. But it seems the free night is a better choice.

I have used the Suite upgrades to get the Penthouse Suite in NY. But they are similar to Time Share trades. Most people try and use them at popular places at popular times and have little success.
So if you are flexible they can be nice, the free night is good but also has drawback of point limit.
