What's a good spot in September?

Most of the east coast and Caribbean are out because of hurricane season. I'd like to be on the water somewhere though
 
I wouldn't worry about hurricanes any more than tornadoes if I were going to Kansas. I love the Florida panhandle in Sept and Oct. The area was hit badly in '04 and '05, but it was years before then and has been years since. Granted, we're usually watching a storm brewing somewhere while we're there but it is a rare event for it to land where you are. Book where you want to go, get trip insurance and relax.
 
Hawaii has summer weather in Sept. & Oct.
 
Thanks. What places in Hawaii am I likely to get if I put in a request now for September? Don't want to aim too high or too low
 
Sept. is very low season in Hawaii. Are you requesting through Marriott or II?

You might request all the Marriott resorts and take what ever you get first.

If you call II - they are probably transferring you to the Marriott desk at II. Marriott owners can advise better than I can, on that.

You have priority for Marriott to Marriott trades, so your best bet is to put in an ongoing request ASAP for all the Marriott resorts in Hawaii, for the whole month.

Myrtle Beach is wonderful in September. We have stayed at the Marriott hotel next door to Marriott Ocean Watch several times and it's great. We haven't tried to trade into Myrtle Beach during that time so I can't say how difficult it is to get into Ocean Watch.

I would consider Aruba. It is outside the hurricane belt. The Surf Club has lots of availability in Sept due to a recent bulk banking.

The chance of a hurricane hitting any specific spot during your travels are pretty low. It is possible,and that is what travel insurance is for.

Hawaii is a good place to go in September, as is Aruba. I would avoid Orlando as it is stinking hot. I have also hear SoCal is good in the fall but don't have any personal experience.
 
US West Coast

We lived in San Diego and September/October were some of my favorite times of year......June Gloom (made spring an off season)....but Fall in both northern California or Southern California are great times of year.

We visited Washington State in September too and it was fantastic - no crowds and the weather was perfect....took lots of ferry's between the islands for a week......it was wonderful.

I'd say anywhere on the West Coast in September early October and the Southwest would be super anywhere into Ocotober...ie Scottsdale, Sedona, Las Vegas.

Wish I were planning.......

I second IngridN. Aruba is an easy trade and the weather is great all year long.
If you do not want to use one of your weeks, there is usually a plethora of getaways for September and October.
 
Sept is a great month to score good trades because kids are back in school so demand is probably the lowest it is all year. You don't list where you live but if its easy for you to get to Hawaii I'd consider that first, but that is just me.

you're kidding, right?

Hawaii, Aruba, East coast almost anywhere.

Hurricane season affects Virgin Isles and immediate vicinity most often, and the odds are with you there too. The other three mentioned are awesome and I wouldn't hesitate in the least. Tip of Florida, maybe higher odds of hurricane, but 9 out of 10 years you'll be fine there too with any given week.
 
Hilton Head! All the kids with families are gone. No waiting at any of the restaurants. The air and water temps are wonderful, It is my favorite time of year there!
 
Oops, I just realized this was for Marriott suggestions. AFAIK no Marriotts where I suggested.

Just as well ...we dont need our season to start any earlier

By the way Ive lived in SW Florida for 15 years and I think they evacuated the islands once. As has been said your chances of being hit by a storm is slim...There is plenty of warning...if you see one coming...stay home
 
Even if no hurricane is likely there are lots of wet weather patterns on the east coast (I live in ny so I follow this stuff). I start a new job in October so if my vacation in September gets rained out and I have to cancel I won't have the opportunity to travel again for a pretty long time after. I am asking for a reason for more of a "sure thing" vacation that is almost 100% likely to be good weather.
 
How about Marbella Spain? Should be lovely in Sept, not crowded and from NY, fairly reasonable airfare. A whole lot easier/cheaper than Hawaii from the East Coast.

HHI is beautiful and still warm in September, with some good availability. It's in the indentation in the coastline with Savannah, and it's been over 100 years since they've been hit with a hurricane. Much safer that Myrtle or the OBX.

100 years? Sounds like they are due. I have watched a few programs about how a hurricane could devastate Savannah. People there seem to be complacent in the fact they haven't had a direct hit in a century. Sounded similar to New Orleans.
 
Probably the only places I would avoid during hurricane season would be the OBX area, Bahamas and Greater and Lesser Antilles. We were in Hurricane Floyd when it hit the Bahamas in 1999.

When you get later in to the hurricane season, these areas are not as much of a problem with the Atlantic season winding down around the end of September. After that, hurricanes tend to form in the southern Caribbean Sea and move west toward the Yucatan.
 
I have a friend that owns at MOW silver season. The last 2 years in Sept. His vacation has rained more than 50% of the time they were there. They were very unhappy two years in a row. I think they go 3rd week in Sept.
 
Aruba

Check out Aruba. Hardly any hurricanes. On average one hurricane passes within 100 miles of Aruba every four years. Almost all of them did not significantly affect the weather on the island. It's mostly a desert island and on the edge of the huricane belt. For more info:
