1) Is there a vacation destination you wish to visit most of the time or on a regular basis? if so where?
Seoul and various locations in Europe

2) Do you want to visit your home resort at least half the time, or do you want to trade more than half the time?
It’s a pure points system with 13 month lead time on their “Hawaii collection”

3) What are your 5 top trade destinations?
Asian countries (Seoul, Jeju, Japan)and various Western Europe destinations (Paris, Milan, Porto etc…)

4) How many people do you usually travel with - total, including yourself?
2 to 3

5) Can you travel any time, or are you locked into the school schedule?
Any time

6) Can you make firm plans 12 or more mos. in advance?
12 at most, less than 12 is needed due to work scheduling software

7) Can you vacation for a full week at a time?
Yes

8) What level of accommodations do you prefer on a scale of 1 to 5 stars?
3+. Cleanliness, good bathrooms and proximity to interesting sites is the priority

9) How much can you afford to spend upfront, without financing?
Offer from HGV max is in the 30k range

10) How much can you afford to spend every year for a maintenance fee that will come due right after Christmas, and increase each year?
$2400 is our quoted MF which is affordable for us

11) Are you a detail oriented planner?
Sometimes, not all the time.

12) Do you understand that once you buy a timeshare, it may be very difficult to sell or give away, and you are responsible for all fees, until you do?
Yes, am curious on HGV max and termination conditions
Summary here for us is that we were quoted and was quite keen on looking HGV max in the Hawaii collection for 33k up front, 2k maintenance and 8500 points a year

We are interested in occasionally doing a large family meet up in a central location between Asia and the US and then the other times would go to either Asia or Europe.

Travel is about 3 times a year or so. Flexibility via DEX seems enticing, but the costs and economics all seem rather high just to get access to 3 weeks a year or so of resort stay at $2500 a year in maintenance. Have a few days to mull it over before I consider the canceling of it

Don't do it. The sales folks will tell you what you want to hear.
Less than 50% of the resorts in the Hawaii Collection are in Hawaii. And you would be limiting yourself to the few affiliated locations (non-HVC resorts) outside of the US.

Here are some threads from the "Hilton Vacation Club - Diamond Resorts" Forum (link)

Understood. Does a more traditional vacation sightseeing style with lower luxury standards in Europe benefit from HVC max in anyway? The hope would be to easily find 2 - 6 night stays in various European areas to give our son exposure to various cultures.

Appreciate the response and helpful links

You won't get 3 weeks with 8500 points, that's about a week in a studio.

Got it, thank you. This seems to be the common answer across the various threads I started (again, sorry for the spam)

I’ll look into canceling my transaction today. My hope was this would simplify our already hectic lives when dealing with vacations. Instead, this seems to add a new level of anxiety of inventory access to where I want to go.

I am sad this doesn’t fit our needs (was honestly looking to conscientiously invest some disposable income into family bonding time), but I am grateful to have found this community though, I think I’ll stick around, member up and look at the resale and rental market.
