After reading a thread about getting DVC resorts on RCI with Points for Deposit I realized I had no idea what that means. In fact, I don't really understand the RCIpoint system in general having never had a point resort. Now with DVC's affiliation with RCI I guess I have to do something to get back into DVC. Are Points for Deposit a lease of points through RCI? How exactly do they work, where do I get some and is it worth it?

Points For Deposit Means Depositing Straight Timeshare Weeks Into The Points System.

Points For Deposit is what RCI calls it when members of RCI Points deposit their straight timeshare weeks into RCI Points instead of banking them with RCI Weeks for conventional week-for-week exchanges.

Points For Deposit only works with non-points timeshare weeks located at non-points timeshare resorts. A straight week (i.e., regular timeshare week not converted to points) at a points timeshare is no good for Points For Deposit.

And even a straight timeshare week at a non-points resort can only be used for Points For Deposit when the owner is already a member of RCI Points -- i.e., owns (or leases) a points timeshare somewhere & has an RCI Points membership in addition to being a member of RCI Weeks.

Other than that, points are points. The timeshare points sitting there in your RCI Points points-balance all work the same (for points-based timeshare exchanges, etc.) regardless of whether you got'm the conventional way (for the RCI Points timeshares you own, for which the points automatically go into your points account each year), or whether you got'm via Points For Deposit, which only happens when you tell RCI you're depositing your straight timeshare week into the points system. (Just to rub it in, RCI charges $27 for each Points For Deposit transaction.)

Alan, now you can get your daughter-in-law into a real Disney resort. :D

I remembered that she is a Disney nut and loves to stay on-site, so you put some Disney soaps in her bathroom. That was so sweet.

Im so glad I ran into this. Im going to have 1 points account (88,500 pts) and one week. Whats the benefit of doing PFD as opposed to searching and trading with the week?

The Best Of Both Systems.

Whats the benefit of doing PFD as opposed to searching and trading with the week?
You can pick & choose from both systems -- i.e, see what's available in points & also see what's available in straight weeks & go for whichever is more advantageous.

One thing to keep in mind is that points -- including PFD points -- have shorter shelf life than banked weeks.

Points are good for 1 year & can be rolled over for a 2nd year. After that -- POOF ! -- they're gone.

First, you weeks unit cannot be at a resort that is converting to Points (you've been buying up so fast I lost track as to what you own :D)
The one benefit is that you know exactly how much your unit is worth.
On the other hand, I do not believe you can do a "request" with a points account, so if you are looking to get a specific "Weeks" resort with an exchange, you might be better off depositing your week and initiating a search.

I'm not certain, but if you deposit your week (into your weeks account), you may be able to transfer it to your points account at a later date. Other Tuggers, please correct me if I'm wrong.

As for me, I own a Points and a weeks (which also trades with II). So if I can't rent it, may choices are to deposit it as Points, as a week, with II, with DAE, with Redweek....HELP:wall:

That's how we do PFD. First we bank our straight week(s) the regular way, then do PFD with the already banked week(s) if we choose.

It's important not to wait too late for that. The points-value received for PFD goes way, way down if PFD is done later than 90 days before check-in at the weeks-resort being deposited into points.
