What size LCD TV in master bedrm?

we currently have a 22" LCD and considering upsizing alittle. the distance of viewing is 15 feet...what size tv do you have or want in master bedroom?thanks...:)

We do not have a t v in the bedroom. Never had one either in the bedroom.
 
I think the general consensus is about 40-46" however, I would go to the nearest Circuit City; plop my butt 15 feet away and see what there is to see. Personal preference always being what it is.:banana: I bought a 42 inch Samsung. The color/lighting is pretty intense (my husband describes it like sleeping on a subway at night).:zzz:
 
We view ours from about 12' and we went with a 32". We were originally going to get a 37" but looking at them in the store I was concerned it would be too big so we went with the 32" which turned out to be just right.
 
We bought a 32" LCd Sharp Aquos for our bedroom. Remember it looks larger in your home than the store. Agree to the plop yourself in a chair in the store.


You also could make a paper template and put it over the current TV to see the size. I read that somewhere. Aha it was from Kal!

32" LCD here.
 
26 inch Sharp Aquos. We're only about 10 feet from the TV and the picture is perfect.
 
I would definitely not go smaller than a 32" but a 42" screen might be too obnoxious for the room. In August 2007 I used a poster board template of various screen sizes to determine the optimum. That worked perfect.

Be aware however that the most common disease with big screen HDTV owners is - "I wish I would have gotten a bigger screen". Then when they get a bigger screen, they suffer from the next disease - "That thing is HUGE and takes up way too much room".

At 9 feet we have a 46". It was at first overwhelming but remembering past TV's. I knew we would adjust to it. We did and love it.
 
I'm 16 feet away from the TV (yeah, its a large bedroom, but smaller than the one at the previous house, believe it or not), and I have a 32 inch TV. Works well for me. I also have it raised about 3-1/2 or 4 feet from the floor, which gives it "presence" and makes it appear larger.

There's a formula online somewhere for the optimum size. If you go too big, and are too close, the extra size/rez will be wasted, according to the experts anyway. You might be able to find it by searching for hdtv viewing distances or something like that. (Right now, I'm too lazy to search for you.) On the other hand, it's really up to you, what you like, and how much you want to spend, but if you can fit a 40 - 42 inch screen, I would go with that.

With 15' viewing distance you can probably easily go above 40".

We're very happy with our 32" LCD in the bedroom. It is on top of an entertainment center.
 
Thanks all.....I'm going to 'test out' the Sony 32" Bravia that's on sale at Best Buy for $799....I like the price and it sounds like majority say that it will be nice size for bdrm.....My 22" Sony was $2,200 exactly 5 years ago- WOW!
(maybe I'm wrong, but seems that guys like the biggger sets...not sure I want 'other' lifesize people in the bedrm).....

Another question for you techno whizzes...the new LCD (720p), will have HDMI built-in, so will I still need to rent the Fios set-top box?

Yes. You still need the set-top box to decode the content off the wire. Or you can replace it with a Tivo HD + cablecards from Verizon.

Make sure your set-top box has hdmi out. If not, have them swap it out for you.

32" is small for a 15' viewing distance IMHO, but it's your choice. Remember that you will be watching some 4:3 content either zoomed or with bars on the sides.

You never know what the future holds, but a set with only 720p will limit resolutions of 1080p usage.
 
LCD for Bedroom

I got a 32" and think I could have gone 37". Much larger would have become difficult to maneuver. The 32" fits nicely on the dresser.
 
We have a 32" Sony in our bedroom. It is 12' away from us. It is the perfect size for us.

Pretty much the same for us. We had our old (27" tube) tv and video equipment on top of a 4' high dresser. Originally I thought about going larger, but that probably would have required wall mounting behind the dresser, pretty much at ceiling level-down. The 32" Sony fit in practically perfect on our dresser, hanging over one side about 2".
