What luggage brands do you use?

We only travel with carryon. Sometimes a little challenging but not checking luggage makes it worthwhile. I got my current bag from Costco about 7 years ago…still going strong even with “high mileage”.

Since my wife likes shoes and needs a larger sized suitcase, we were looking for luggage that was durable and lightweight. We ended up buying Delsey and it has worked out well. Whenever I check my wife's bag, the airline employees eyes light up expecting to have to charge us extra for being overweight. It has almost always been at or under 50 lb. She uses the extra large, while I get the medium. They've held up well for the past 10 years. Delta damaged and replaced one of them, but that was an extreme circumstance. We also like the bright colors that are easy to spot at luggage claim.

I lived out of an 'underseat' size American Tourister (iirc) for years and years on the trucks. Every day (or so) traipsing through truck stops to shower, then back to the truck, rain or shine and off down the road again. Of course there were closets in the tractor for hanging clothes and we carried four seasons of clothes year-round. Their plethora of zippered pockets and compartments helped keep stuff organized. A succession of this type bag usually lasted a couple of years of nearly non-stop service, then would be retired for another similar one.

When I transitioned to more 'civilized' travel, I got a 24" Delsey & matching carry-on. They are still serviceable, though some of the ID tags have scuffed off. Unfortunately, the 'Helium' moniker is highly over-rated. They're heavy!

DW just gave me a new polycarbonate spinner by London Fog (Don't blame me, I didn't choose it) for an upcoming 2-season cruise. I don't know that it'll last more than this trip, but not being one to look gift-horses in the mouth, I'm giving it a go.

I own Briggs and Riley 2 wheel carryon. It is a beast, held up well but heavier than our TravelPros which we prefer to take on trips.

TravelPros have held up well for over 10 years.

Prefer 2 wheelers over spinners because they hold more and still qualify for carryon.

We use rolling soft duffels from Eddie Bauer or FUL if we need to check bags internationally with walking sticks or snorkel gear. These break over time but we just buy another because they are less than $100.

Burton. Yes the snowboard company. They make a very solid large suitcase as well as carry-on.

We have four of the larger bags in our family. The bags take a lot of abuse. Two of the four did not survive after 10 and 14 years of heavy use, BUT Burton replaced them both under their lifetime warranty.

The wheels are skateboard wheels. If you break one, any decent skateboard shop can replace it in 3 minutes.

I am in hotels 100 to 150 nights per year. That's a lot of banging around with a suitcase.

I have had a carryon I got in Walmart for many years. It’s in perfect condition. I usually don’t fly more than once per year, but I also use it for all our drive to vacations.

For our Sicily trip will use it along with another carry on, and hard case for checking in that my neighbor is lending us.

We also have a big wheeled duffle bag we’ve had forever that’s still in great shape.

I never worry about brand names for luggage. Just price and space and as long as it’s not flimsy I’m good.

I love soft side, four wheel spinners. I have both Briggs & Riley and Travel Pro. Have had many brands over the years but these two are my favorites.

I had looked on costco.com after your post #4 and didn't find them, so @Seaport104's post was very useful, pointing out that they are on Costco Next.

Thank you, @Seaport104!

Kurt

All you have to do is search for it and it appears. It’s not difficult. Guess I should not assume in future that most here know how to search.

Nice try, but nope, they are not on my costco.com. Might be a regional thing. Here is the list of brands available when I looked at the available luggage:

I know that you are very concerned, so I wanted to ease your mind that I, indeed, do know how to perform a search. I'm sure that is a load off your mind. :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Got any other snide remarks?

Kurt

I really wasn’t trying to be insulting, or offer a snide remark. It seems you lash out at me like this every now and then, and have done so for years. How about next time taking the high road and consider that I was actually trying to be helpful with my posts instead?

BTW, when you search at Costco using the nav bar for the “Luggage” category you’ll only see those items they sell direct. Briggs and certain others are only available from the vendors site using that other link from Costco. But when you search for the brand name at Costco, as opposed to scanning the category vendor list, you’ll see it. I would agree that Costco could improve this.

Now you’re just being a jerk.

No, you were the jerk with your "Guess I should not assume in future that most here know how to search" comment. Sorry you don't understand how insulting your comments are at times. You're just annoyed that I am one of the few that will call you out on it. Maybe some lessons in tact would help you out.

If you don’t like what I post, either block me or report me. I know you’re a smart guy, but you took offense at something that wasn’t intended to be offensive. You read more into my comment than intended. And you continue to pile on without knowing when to stop. Hopefully a mod will stop by soon and clean up this otherwise informative thread. Thanks for taking us down this negative and dark road.

No, I read exactly what you wrote: "Guess I should not assume in future that most here know how to search". Do you honestly think that anyone would not take that as an insult??? Maybe try reading your posts out loud before you submit them. You're the one who started down this insult path. But knowing you, you will try to continue with this, so go ahead. I'm done here. (I know how you just have to get the last word in...)

Your passive aggressiveness knows no end. It's so unfortunate.

For everyone else, please note that I responded with details on why PigsDad didn't see the luggage vendors in his search and included an image. All it took was someone actually, you know, searching. As in, using the search field at costco.com. Instead, he called me out and then made it personal by attacking me for posting a light-hearted comment and interpreted it as an insult, even after I explained that was not the intent. This continual and repeated attempt to make me the bad guy, even after I explained my posts and also explained why his "search" was incomplete, is the most insulting part of this interaction. He could have simply posted understanding on why he didn't see the luggage vendors at costco.com, confirmed that by searching by name resulted in the link shown in the image I posted, and apologized for trying to - once again - make me into the ogre who goes around TUG posting insulting comments.

It is apparent to *anyone* that you can indeed search at costco.com by the luggage vendor name and find a link to the site where you may purchase them. All you need to do is type in the vendor name in the search field.

Personalities and snide comments aside, I'm sorry you can't be up front and admit when you're so obviously, factually, wrong.

Your attempt to belittle and insult me stops now. I will respond now and in future to any additional comments you make in this, or other, threads. I will no longer ignore you as I have done for many months now as you have insulted me in similar manner in the past.

I have used a variety of brands over the years, TravelPro, Eagle Creek, Atlantic, and most recently Briggs and Riley. I liked Eagle Creek, but they changed the models and I did not like those as much, plus their warranty was problematic.

I think I did check Costco for my last purchase, but did not find Briggs and Riley. Perhaps they were not offering it then, or perhaps I just assumed it would show up no matter how I searched.

Costco on line usually has a limited selection of Briggs and Riley available through their Next program.

“Costco Members Receive an Exclusive Value on Briggs & Riley Travel Pieces Through Costco Next”

if you search Briggs and Riley on their web site it should come up. Their inventory does change periodically but is typically a good price if they have the product you are looking for.

I have ordered a few pieces. You are able to return to any Costco store which is convenient. One suitcase was smaller then I realized and easily returned.
