St. Cloud, Florida
We have been out west Montana, Utah, and Arizona with our trades. We love the west. I have an on going search in for West Glacier, again, loved it!
I bought our timeshare to see didn't parts of the country, but keep going out west.
My son and I love the mountain drives, animals, and home town feel. Maine crossed my mind.
Is there a location in the northeast that would satisfy my wants? Our trip would be the end of May 2007. Thank You!

I would recommend Vermont or New Hampshire over Maine. Both have lots of timeshares to choose from. New Hampshire is a good base to visit Boston, if you like, and has good outlet shopping in North Conway. Lots of scenic hiking areas too. But: I like Vermont better as it's more secluded, more mountainous and probably has more of the hometown feel that you're looking for. However, late May is mud season. There would be very few other people around (in either state) and the resorts/restaurants would not have all their amenities open. I would suggest mid to late June instead. I've generally had great luck with weather, and there seem to be enough people around to socialize with, but not too many that any place you go will be crowded. In fact, I'm headed up to Vermont in 3 days. :whoopie:

Just remember, what we call mountains from Geogria north through New Hamp & Vermont (Along the East Coast).....you might see as high hills ;)

If you can get two weeks you migh try the Northern areas first....have a two day timeshare break to drive toward the south.

During the 1930s, part of the conservation corps and road builders built roads from Virginia to N Carolina along the ridge...search for Skyline Drive as an example.

May might be an excellent month, as well. I've seen weeks on RCIs site (extravacations) for Smuggs, and sometimes on the II site, for Trapp Family Lodge...both near Stowe, VT. Follow that week with two days S on Interstse 81 to Fort Royal, VA, where the Skyline Drive starts. (The two days of this travel might take you along this drive, and if you get as far as Asheville, NC (area)....there are tons to see in that area as well (Biltmore Estate, Cherokee Living Museum, Smokey Mountains ). MAy is still early enough to find some good T/Ss....remember to look at those extra vacations...some may be as low as $199 a week from RCI. (But then check the reviews here, so there are no surprises!)

I personally love the Loon mtn area. It's 5 minutes from Franconia Notch state Park...great hiking, pretty sites. Ask somone about getting to Bald Nob (it's in the Notch)...nice hike and incredible views. If you choose this area...you should also ask a local about The Old Hole. It's just a local hangout on the river...not well known by too many tourists...but a nice place to spend some time in good weather. It's within an hour or so to N Conway (outlet haven and a bit too busy for my tastes) along the Kankamangus highway which offers some good hiking. You can also go to Littleton, NH and Lyndonville VT in about an hour. Lake Winnepausake is just a bit further (only south) and offers a lakside community and boardwalk for exploring....great for a day trip. I lived in this area for 6 years and still miss it. :(

the resort at Sunday River in Maine is beautiful also if you like the ocean as well Southwest Harbor has a very nice timeshare near Acadia Nat Perk lots of hiking and biking there in the park and Southwest Harbor is a lovely home feel town
