I read a review in the newspaper (I think in the past month or two) and wanted to read the book but now can't remember the title! Can anyone help me?

  • It's set in Spain, I believe at the time of the Spanish Inquisition.
It was described as being along the same lines as Ken Follett's Pillars of the Earth in that it is about someone building a cathedral.
I believe it came out sometime this year.

Can anyone help me with these meager clues??!?

Also......as long as I'm asking, what is the recently released book that has a single word as the title and it is Lacesomething! It's not Lacemaker, it's Lace******???!?!

Debi,

I think you are referring to Cathedral by the Sea by Ildefonso Falcones.

The Lace book I can't help you with.

If you go to Amazon.com you can do an advanced search with Lace as a key word. After you do your search on the right hand side of the screen it will break it down even more and you can choose from Romance, Literature, History--etc..

One of the first that comes up is Lace by Shirley Conran, second is The Lace Reader: A Novel by Brunonia Barry

I bet the lace one is that Lace Reader book. I just read a little article about it in Entertainment Weekly. It was self-published and then it was such a hit that a major publisher picked it up. The main character is someone who "reads" lace, like a palm reader. In the EW article, the author said that now there are "lace readers" all over the place, but that she invented the idea for the book! It sounded good.

I request recorded books and I just checked my library system. I'm now 22nd on the list for Lace Reader. I guess it is a popular book.

For Cathedral by the Sea there are no requests - it's a 23 hour book!

TUG is great, aint it? Glad your TUG friends solved the mystery.

For anyone wanting book that have been out a while, I always buy mine at Amazon.com. They are often slightly used but I spend hardly anything for them and I've never had a bad condition one shipped. Always been very satisfied and right now we could all use frugality!

Speaking of self-publishing...there is a woman I know through another message board that self-published a book and spends gobs and gobs of time promoting it on various internet sites. I decided to order it from Amazon, and found it very disturbing. I am now wondering if I'm the only one who feels that way as no one on the other message board has mentioned anything about it! (Then again, neither have I....)
