We were given $100 Visa gift card and a 2 night hotel voucher for attending a "2 hour" presentation at the Wyndham Vacation Resorts office while staying in Gatlinburg, TN - Smoky Mountains.
... we also signed and are in the process of canceling the contract. It was a 7 hour ordeal and I was shocked when I got home and found out that I could get the same package/points on ebay for 1/10th the price! Hence the cancellation. This was our first time doing one of these and looking back now and reading all the TUG posts, it's all very interesting how they operate. A older gentleman sitting next to us in the "presentation room" was quite funny in that he politely told the sales rep "I'm only here for the gift." I could tell she was frustrated the whole time since he never swayed from his statement. But what do they expect? They say "take a 2 hour tour and get $100" and "no obligation to purchase anything" and "no pushy sales reps".
I am looking forward to another TS tour, getting $100, and SAYING NO.
The sad truth though is that there are many people who get duped into this, let their 10 day cancellation period expire, then realize sometime later they are in over their heads once the maintenance fees start and they see the true cost of this package. (ours was $15,949 for 105k points)
JudyS, I enjoyed your professional perspective on the sales reps!
Just curious how many TUG users purchase their first TS through a sales office and pay $10k - $30k vs buying resale???
