what is the going rate for timeshare tours today?

timeshare bucks

It seems like Branson is the cheapest place for time share freebies. At $50-60
it hardly seems worth our time. Marriott on Marco Island gave us $100 in dinning certificates in $25 denominations for a quick tour of their resort they are building. real nice but verrrrry expensive.

Is anyone getting anymore for Branson?

I got $100 at Westgate Smoky Mountains last week. It actually was the shortest presentation I have ever been to because the veteran salewoman knew right away we would not be buying and really did not try too hard, although the manager did try to insult us with how insincere we were for taking the tour with no intention of buying.

Governors Green

I received $100 for doing the tour at Governors Green in June :cheer:

We got a $140.00 gift certificate to Gallaghers' Steakhouse in NYNY for sitting through a presentation of Tahitian Village in Las Vegas.

The TS presentations where we've received the best gifts are the ones at resorts mostly while on vacation. The last one we attended was a Wyndham here in our hometown at their sales office in a commercial district. It was not as professional, nor were the gifts anywhere near what we've been able to get in the past.

We had the choice of $100 Visa card or 15,000 Marriott Points for the tour at OceanWatch in Myrtle Beach. We took the 15,000 points. Took about 5 weeks to get deposited into our account, but they are there.

A Little Suggestion

There is a way to try and clean up the industry - Get enough people to complain about it until positive action is taken.

My suggestion: File a complaint with the BBB describing the false statements that you experienced during the sales presentation. You can file a complaint even though you didn't make a purchase. If a number of complaints are put on the records of BBB then any prospective TS purchaser can look at the BBB site and see that there are potential problems.

Also, file a complaint with the Attorney General in your state and in the state where the TS company has its headquarters (Marriott is in Florida). The Attorney General's office can file civil and criminal proceedings and encourage state law makers to pass stricter laws.

Write letters to your local newspapers.

Write a complaint to the TS company. Will Marriott, or others, try to clean up their act? So far they don't seem to care. If they start getting enough bad press / complaints to Gov't agencies and the BBB, they might try to improve some of their practices.

Our TS units might have greater value if the industry practices weren't seen as sleazy.

Why does the industry believe it needs fraudulent, hard-sell, tactics to sell its products?

We received 2 nights in a 2 bedroom for $129 a night and a $150 room credit at hyatt wild oak ranch in San Antonio a couple of weeks ago.

On a recent visit to Hilton Head we received $100 check and a free 2/3 vacation from 2 places. could not find any where on the 2/3 that said we would have to attend a presentation.

The problem with both places was that you had to take a shuttle to the beach which was almost a mile to the beach. wonder when the developers quits selling will this shuttle still be there?

I am sorry but my "soul" is not for sale . . . .

Hilton West 57th in New York.

Received 500 hhonors points and a $125 amex travellers check.
--could have chosen dinner for 2 at hilton hotels steakhouse.

Told him no, his manager came and offered me a 4 night hotel stay for $1300. told the manager no and got my checks.

All no hassle.

Same Here . . .

I am sorry but my "soul" is not for sale .
. . . but my rental rates are semi-reasonable.

At this point "madam" all we are doing is haggling about the price we have already established what you are LOL . . .

We were given $100 Visa gift card and a 2 night hotel voucher for attending a "2 hour" presentation at the Wyndham Vacation Resorts office while staying in Gatlinburg, TN - Smoky Mountains.

... we also signed and are in the process of canceling the contract. It was a 7 hour ordeal and I was shocked when I got home and found out that I could get the same package/points on ebay for 1/10th the price! Hence the cancellation. This was our first time doing one of these and looking back now and reading all the TUG posts, it's all very interesting how they operate. A older gentleman sitting next to us in the "presentation room" was quite funny in that he politely told the sales rep "I'm only here for the gift." I could tell she was frustrated the whole time since he never swayed from his statement. But what do they expect? They say "take a 2 hour tour and get $100" and "no obligation to purchase anything" and "no pushy sales reps".

I am looking forward to another TS tour, getting $100, and SAYING NO.

The sad truth though is that there are many people who get duped into this, let their 10 day cancellation period expire, then realize sometime later they are in over their heads once the maintenance fees start and they see the true cost of this package. (ours was $15,949 for 105k points)

JudyS, I enjoyed your professional perspective on the sales reps!

Just curious how many TUG users purchase their first TS through a sales office and pay $10k - $30k vs buying resale???

We've got 7 day cruise for 2

Forgot the resort's name, but it was RCI points, and it's located in Cornville, just outside of Sedona, AZ. We had to pay a total of $600 (for tax + port fee). Overall, we saved about $550 if we had book the same cruise ourself.

More like 1/100th

Just returned from Branson and was offered $100 bass Pro gift card and a free 2/3 stay for a presentation.

Just returned from Whistler, BC and a 3-night stay at the Clocktower through Vacations International. Accommodations were good and the destination is superb. While strolling the village walk, we were offered $150 to spend as we chose if we would take the tour with Shell Vacations who are trying to market a renovated development. We have had our fill of tours this year so we declined.

Don't accept an offer for them to 'come up to your room' with a gift or to ask you how your check-in went....etc. They are just trying to get off cheap and get their nose under the tent. It's a sales pitch!!

Massanutten Freebies ?

We're taking a pre-surgery timeshare week at Massanutten next week.

From what I read (mainly on TUG), the going rate for WoodStone timeshare tours is 2 free Activity Passes.

We're thinking of making it a week of mainly non-activity.

Any chance they'll up the ante to $125 or so instead ?

If not, it's perfectly OK.

I don't exactly have my heart set on getting exposed to another hard-sell, high-pressure, arm-twisting, psychologically manipulative sales pitch.
