Thank you for your assistance everyone. It appears it is a 10 year contract.
T-Dot-Traveller - I believe Holiday Systems is refunding the $400 or so each year that we pay in fees. Thank you for the explanation on the weeks; so it offers 2 weeks each year--one can be booked well in advance, the other for less desired times. That helps.
pittle - Okay yes I would not pay transfer fee to get rid of...it is only costing $60 or so a year not using it.
Hi Edwardb298 ,
Vidanta / Vida / Mayan - has over the years sold many different contract variations . The Holiday Systems " refund " if they take your week is one I have not heard of - but around 2010 HSI and Vidanta were doing lots of bonus " breakaway weeks " etc .- so the time frame and concept make sense . It is a "deposit to HSI - no go /partial refund ".
if you were buying today It would likely be SFX - Vida weeks .
Your 10 year renewal due in 4 years is likely $ 1000 or so . If you do not pay I am pretty sure the contract ends .
You can contact member services and they will email you a PDF of the contract
if you think you wish to understand it better .
By the way - some of Vidanta's recent contracts (The Collections)!charge. $ 585 for the MF of a master suite/ hotel room since they can " reset " when selling a new product .That product does not have an ARP but seems to have " no go / no pay " ie MF on use only .
So -your contract is likely " better " than one of their current starter TS programs , even though your contract has no resale value ,only use value or exchange value
My guess - if your 2016 MF cost is under $ 500 - is that your contract has the same sort of cap to annual increases that mine has . We have USA CPI plus a 5%!max . for Mexican inflation .
Over the last 10 years both indexes have been low - so the MF has increased an avg of $ 20 per year.
The concept of one week with 6 month ARP and a second " bonus " week is generally how older, Mayan contracts work . However I would clarify with them - to be sure . Member Services and Reservation and the resorts are high quality and professional . FYI.- Their TS sales force is very focused and would want to " upgrade" you - so ....contact Member Services .
I assume this cost 5K - 10K or more when originally bought . If it was me - I would attempt to use it at least once before letting it expire or giving back .
FYI - for the first 3 years we owned - I paid MF &'deposited into RCI and then let the TPU's expire without use - because I was " too busy " to take vacation .
in year 4 we booked Mazatlan Sea Garden a month before travel because that was what had availability.- and paying for something we were not using seemed increasingly stupid on my part .
Today we have 32 weeks left ( based on 2 per year )! and we plan to use all of them .( it has no go / no pay) which started at year 5 as per our original contract so if life changes ,we owe only 2 reno fees in the next 15 years .
It took me a while to figure all this out
If you wish to have a larger size suite you can deposit into RCI and then book in through RCI and pay the exchange fee . There are TUG members / Mayan owners - who do this every year .
I will try to look up how many TPU,s a studio gets . RCI was closed on the weekend to upgrade their computer system .
According to the RCI website "deposit calculator " your 2017 year/ MF could get 13 TPU if deposited now ( June 2016) for a master suite/ no kitchen
I based it as a Neuvo Vallarta unit . This works out to $35-40 per TPU .You also have to pay the RCI annual fee and the exchange fee and if you wish to combine deposits
ie 2 years deposits to get 26 + TPU there is a fee .
** note :see following info / next post- from rpennisi who received better TPU than the calculator . That can definitely happen .
The online calculator is an estimate , The may give more and perhaps purposely set the calculator on the low end so people are pleased using RCI.
