What is enough? Paradise? Contentment?

VacatinForever, what is your K2 dosage and K2 MK variety?
I take Nature Made K2 (MK-7) 100mcg per day. I take 2 Nature Made Vitamin D3 2000 IU with it. Nature Made has a combo, with 5000 IU Vitamin D3 and 100mg K2 pill. My concern is that 5000 IU of Vitamin D3 is too much, so I don't take the combo.

Definitely not. I would never be happy east of the Continental Divide or living in CA, OR, WA. That kind of limits where I can be happy ...

right, and some people say they would never be happy retiring in a cold winter place (like Colorado)

I am up the next day regardless. Drink at night and go to bed at 1am and up by 7:30am and walking the track on the 16th deck.
Thats great. Sadly a lot sleep till lunch and miss a good part of their vacation. Never got that part.

That is the story of Hawaii for me. We visited once in 2013, because my wife heard so much about it from her sister. Kauai in June -- hot, humid, miserable for me when I was not in the pool or the ocean. The sea turtles cruise was nice. Crowing roosters at dawn -- do not even get me started!; and it was just something 'Jurassic Park' about them being all over the island. MUCH prefer Oregon beaches in June and the rest of summer.
Yeah, Hawaii seems to be either love it or hate it for both visitors and locals. Growing up, I had friends and family who never wanted to leave, not even interested in visiting the mainland, and I also had friends and family who couldn't wait to get off the rock. I saw it a lot with military personnel. Some get stationed there and decide to get out at the end of their tour so they can stay, and some start pushing for a transfer out as soon as possible.

Check out Vitamin D3 and K2 mix.
What is K2? All I can find is bad info, nothing good on it with a Google search.

Update on my knee pain. It's better today. Not perfect, but it's getting better, and that is such a positive. I was using my old walker from my hip surgery of 8 years ago to get around. Now I am using a cane for support. Such a blessing to have the pain subsiding, even if it's a gradual thing. We go down tomorrow to take care of the twins. Rick will do most of the chasing, but I can at least give him a hand. They are now 21 months and busy bees.

I am never taking another one of those pills again. But boy have I been sleeping well the last few nights. Pain is exhausting. Seriously, just ibuprofen, and I sleep well.

K2 is a vitamin the apparently regulates calcium uptake and distribution in the body. Like a triglyceride it has a "head" and a variable length "tail". The "tail" subunits are called MK, so one with 4 subunits are MK-4 and 7 subunits are called MK-7. There are others, these are the most studied.

A trial was done in Japan with 4000 aged sufferers of osteoporosis, double blind with the trial arm getting very large doses of K2. The fracture rate for those taking the K2 over 2 years was 1/2 that of the control group. No particular side effects were noted, despite the high dosage.

A reader for the general population. https://laddmcnamara.com/2019/05/14/vitamin-k2-reverses-arterial-stiffness-and-osteoporosis/

Personal anecdotal information. I have been using D3 (5,000 ICU) and 300 Mg of both K2 MK-4 and K2 MK-7 since 2019. 6 months after starting this regimen, I had a Calcium heart score of 5.92, which put me in the top 3% for clear arteries. (I'm fat, don't exercise, eat all the wrong things, and was 62 at the time. Next year i'm going to do a follow-up, to see what has changed.)

My experience was similar. A lot of my high school friends on Oahu were military kids who hated living there. I was the opposite. I love visiting Hawaii - where every day is a day off work - but I've never found motivation to live there as an adult.

In layman's term, D3 helps get calcium from food into the blood stream and tissues. K2 ensures that the calcium go into the bones instead of organs and tissues, i.e. hardening of blood vessels, kidney stones etc. My Coronary Artery Calcium Scan in April came back as 0, which means there is no calcium deposit in my arteries in and around my heart, which is a good thing. My risk of heart attack in the next 10 years is 0. People and doctors are generally unaware that the body needs K2 to lock the calcium into the bones. Taking calcium and D3 supplement is only one half of the equation. We need K2 to ensure that the calcium get into the bones.

I started taking K2 with my D3 about a year ago when I learned about it from a friend and then I researched more about it.

John Prine wrote two songs about Paradise.

1) The first song was about Paradise, Kentucky and the open pit coal mine there.
And daddy won't you take me back to Muhlenberg County
Down by the Green River where Paradise lay
Well, I'm sorry my son, but you're too late in asking
Mister Peabody's coal train has hauled it away

2) The second song (my favorite) was written shortly before he died.

If someone thinks they live in paradise then to them it is paradise. Don’t judge.
that's exactly what I said. Paradise is best experienced delusional.

I was thinking some people move to Mexico, Hawaii, even Florida for their dream lives.

I agree there are tradeoffs and the idea of home is a stong one.
Paradise is the ideal state so delusion is the best way to think you are in an ideal state.

Some people think of paradise of an ideal place, but they would have to ignore the people, events, and circumstances around them and solely concentrate on place. They'll pave it and put up a parking lot, as we've been told now for 60 years. When people move they obviously think it is better, but over time they realize it's not places that are ideal or idyllic (except temporarily). Of course I live in paradise :)

As long as I think I live in paradise, I do live in paradise. I’ve never been one to care much what others think.

I have heard Paradise Kentucky on the radio a few time and I didn't know the name or singer. Now I added it to my spotify favorites (jimmy buffet version). Thanks.

Come visit Mesquite. It was enough of a solution for us, we have no plans to relocate elsewhere.

Life is quite odd and there is a bit of synchronicity and serendipity.

I just found out my younger half-brother who is a paraplegic in his mid-30’s, just bought a townhome in Mesquite last week.

I’ve offered to drive a U-Haul with his belongings from LA. There’s no date and no imminent plans, but I may make it there sooner than I had planned.

If you shold find yourself coming here, let me know. I'd be happy to meet up for coffee or something. Same applies to all Tuggers - this town ain't big enough to hide out in. :D

Damn it, I forgot about contacting you last week when we went to St. George. Remember that we were unable to meet up last year? There is always next year!

It happens often. Folks pass right through town. They never call, they never write... :D

Maybe next year... :D

I get that all the time. But our life in New Hampshire is as close to paradise as it can be for us.

Of course, there really is no Utopia.

Geographically, probably not
People with multiple residences, summer and winter homes, - maybe a little closer to utopia

In our case, we spend 2 months away in each winter and summer using timeshare. That is our utopia. No second and third home maintenance headaches.

Believe it or not lots of folks love their second homes here for winter ( skiing especially, ice fishing, snow showing, sledding and tubing for the kids etc) and summer (fishing, boating, hiking, swimming)

We are lucky to live here year round as retirees.
