What would happen to those owners that own trust points if for some reason Marriott Vacations Worldwide went out of business, or the points system ceased to exist. Since the trust owners own points in a trust and not a week at a specific resort, what would happen.

Point owners OWN the property in the trust. Marriott Vacations Worldwide is a management company. If VAC goes belly up, the property is still there. Point owners still have a deed to the trust, just not a specific resort.

If the trust goes belly up, the assests of the Trust would probably be sold off and anything extra after all expenses, attorney fees, etc. would be distributed to the owners of the trust. If the for profit comany goes bust, the trust would still continue to exist and presumably Marriott's interests in it would be sold to include their owned trust shares, management contracts, etc.

I've always wondered what a trust point owner considers to be their home resort? Do they have priority at any one place over another?

No priority and no home resort.
