What happens if someone doesn’t pay the $3 fee to marriott on resale

You could rent club points from another owner for less than the cost of maint fees, so no need to buy resale club points. You must already be well over the Chairman threshold.
Yes, we are Chairman's Club quite by accident, grandfathered with our Westin OFC. Our fees are very low. I am sure Marriott will change that.

owner decided to pay the fee! Marriott exercised their right of first refusal at $2.50 per point on 3500 pts!
Please add to ROFR.net if you haven't already. Just takes a minute and helps others!

We have an offer on our pts but the buyer is asking what happens if they don’t pay that fee. I know they can’t use the explorer collection or Bonvoy. Is that all?
Just curious and only if you want to share-
Where did you find your buyers?

Actually I would consider it for a smaller amount even with the 60 day restriction now that I'm approaching retirement. Also I wouldn't be surprised if the written rules differed from reality. To me the flexibility of my own points outweighs the minor savings with renting even with the potential limitations. The main issue to me is the maintenance fees in general.

Hey Dean - Do you have an idea of how maintenance fees would be collected if one didn't sign on and pay the $3.00 charge per point. Do you think MVC would even register the points in the name of the new owner for use purposes?

I don't. If they registered under the same account as one has already it should flow alongside all points would be my guess. I would hope that they would come under the same account with the usual prerequisites. But you never know. If I could get one through for basically nothing I'd be willing to give it a try but it appears MVC has been taking them at that price range.

As I wrote upthread, I have a memory of someone buying Abound Points intending to just use them at 60 days or less and MVC refusing to add them to their account and/or allow them to make any reservation using them until they paid the activation fees.

But I can’t pull back any other details beyond that.

As part of my excerpt in post #18....

With respect to Exchange Members, until payment of the initiation fee, the New Program Member will not be entitled to participate in the Program

Since they distinguish between Direct Members and Exchange Members in the full excerpt in post 18, it seems logical they could treat a Trust Points owner (Direct Member) who is buying resale points one way (0-60 day booking) and a Legacy owner who is buying resale points a different way (not allowing you to use them at all). Seems odd, but could be what happened in the case you recall.

friends of our decided to buy them. They were already owners and we had traveled with them for years before my husband got sick

The buyer definitely lost a great deal.
Yes we should have done it for more. We have another set of 3500 pts but unfortunately I forgot there was a small loan on them and we borrowed some for an owner cruise so we will offer them to those alittle higher if they want next year when we can pay them off or let them pay them off as part of the purchase agreement
