i have a week booked for 6/30/2007 that i will not use. If I cancel the reservation and get the week back are their any conditions. Doe my trade power exchange

I know when i canceled an rci exchange my week became almost worthless.

I don't think it'd be that bad with II since your checkin date is still pretty far out, but one way to avoid the issue is to find something online that you would want instead, then they will switch it over for you as a 'retrade' for the cost of another exchange fee.

Do the "retrade". Unlike RCI, if you cancel, you do not get your originally deposited week back, even at reduced trade power. You get instead a "cancellation replacement week" and you can only use it for one year plus only use it for exchanges within the Flexchange period (within 60 days).

I had an already extended week which I had made a confirmed exchange on, then had to cancel for medical reasons within 2 weeks of the checkin. II did give me back a replacement week.

The good news is that they gave me a full year from when I cancelled, even though the original week would have expired in 6 months.
The bad news is that the new week can only be used 30 days out.

I guess it's better than nothing.

The limitation of reserving an exchange only within the Flexchange period applies if the original exchange is canceled within 59 days of check-in. If there are 60 or more days before check-in, the replacement exchange can be confirmed at and for any time within the one year period for use of the replacement week. From the II Membership Terms and Conditions:
(i) When a Member notifies II of his or her desire to cancel the Confirmation 60 days or more prior to the first date of occupancy of his or her Host Accommodations, the Member may request substitute exchange accommodations at any time from the date of cancellation up to 24 hours prior to the first date of occupancy of such substitute exchange accommodations.

(ii) Where the Member notifies II of his or her desire to cancel the Confirmation 59 days to 14 days prior to the first date of occupancy of his or her Host Accommodations, the Member may request substitute exchange accommodations 59 days to 24 hours prior to the first date of occupancy of such substitute exchange accommodations.

(iii) When a Member notifies II of his or her desire to cancel the Confirmation from 13 to seven days prior to the first date of occupancy of his or her Host Accommodations, the Member may request substitute exchange accommodations from limited travel destinations 30 days to 24 hours prior to the first date of occupancy of such substitute exchange accommodations.

Still not a bad deal. The original week only had a 59 day booking window (Flexchange because of extension), so 30 days for it's replacement is pretty good.

Thanks for the correction, Dave. I don't know what happened to my memory -- I've cancelled several times over the years, having done both the before 60 days and within, and I shouldn't have made such a mistake!

Confirmed Exchange with II-lost

I have a reserved exchange with II for July and called them and told them they we could not make it. They told me to give the week away because we would lose it. By what I've read, that doesn't seem that we're being treated fairly.

Is there anything I can do beside give the week away?? Guess what, I've tried giving it to my friends and family and no one wants:mad: to go....

If you can't go, simply call II, tell them you want to cancel and ask for a replacement week. That will be valid for a year from the date you cancel. Thus, within the guidelines from II's rules (see the above quoted material), you might consider delaying a bit before canceling, if you'll need more than a year from now to use a new exchange.

However, if you have already canceled once and this July exchange is a substitute exchange, II is correct; you can't cancel again and get another week.

Cancelled Exchange.

Can I ask if one has an exchange that is now not able to be used in a prime location,is it feasible to purchase a gift certificate and exchange the week with other TUG members.

How about if you are wanting to rebook a week that you already rebooked once? Can you still use that week if you have another week you want to rebook it for?

Did you follow that? :p Let me be more specific. I had a week booked for Presidents week in 2007 at Grand Vista. I decided to go in April instead, so paid the rebooking fee. Now I may not want to go in April either, due to some conflicts with our family schedule. Can I call II and have them change it to yet another timeframe? I would think they would be darn happy to keep having $$ put into their hands for my continued financial contributions.

How the heck do you all plan so far in advance and not have some family member up and change things on you??:annoyed:

Here is Craig Urbine's response to your question, Cindi. He says you would lose your week if you cancel again. Craig was II's official rep to TUG for several years.

The II T&C provide:
The only circumstances under which a Member using the Exchange Program may lose the use and occupancy of the Home Resort accommodations without being provided Host Accommodations are if a Member: .... or (vi) cancels a Confirmation for substitute Host Accommodations that was previously issued to the Member under II’s Exchange Cancellation Policy.
That language is unclear to me. It states that the Member may (not shall) lose the right to another week by canceling substitute accommodations.

Does that mean there is some chance to get a third exchange week? I don't know.

Yes, there is some chance. Cindi - call and ask really nicely whether you could possibly retrade for another week because XXXX occurred causing a conflict. If the answer is no, call back another time and try another rep. I did this once -- retraded twice with one week due to an unexpected conflict. The rep said she was making an exception for me.

Thanks Dave and Amy.

There is nothing to lose by at least trying, right?

Heck, is is all extra $$ to them, why would they even care? The more people cancel and rebook the more money II makes off just one deposit. That seems like a stupid rule.

And I definitely remember Craig. He is a great guy and was a huge asset to TUG. I hope his new business is going well.

Therein lies the problem. I just had to cancel our Christmas week because two of the kids had scheduling conflicts. I have another week booked on Captiva and it's beginning to look like I'll be lonely there if I don't cancel it.

I just try to believe that the vacations I do get to take are still good values, even when you add in a few cancellation fees.

Sheila

I hear ya Sheila.

This is starting to become the norm rather than the exception in our family, unfortunately.

I can't begin to count up the lost $$ in trades and retrades and cancelled airline tickets.

I just don't know how to handle the sitution anymore.
