What do TUGGERS think about electric towel warmers?

I'm thinking of gifting a towel warmer? They range from $70ish dollars to a few thousand. Are the cheap ones junk?

I think it's something I've lived this long without, and haven't missed. I can always grab a freshly laundered one from the dryer that's warm. Our bathrooms are also relatively small, so not something I could realistically have in there.

I could see how some people could really dig them, so could be a great gift, especially for the person that has everything that lives in a cold climate. Just keep in mind they would prob'ly need to store it during summer.

No clue about price/quality matrix.
 
Also, think about where the outlets are in their bathroom. Most bathrooms I have seen only have outlets by the vanity at the counter level. If the towels are on the other side of the room, do you really want to run an extension cord in a bathroom? I think not! And do you really want to give them a gift that would require them to rewire the room?

Charles, Costco has several on their website. If it didn't work, there is always their 90-day, no questions asked refund policy
 
Amazon has them

A friend of mine highly recommended them. She has an inexpensive one. I found great prices on Amazon but when I measured my bathrooms there just wasn't a place for them. I would not buy them for someone else.
 
I can't imagine spending thousands of dollars on a towel warmer. I guess those folks aren't affected by the economy.:)
 
I personally would NOT want one, there are just soooo many other things that would be on my own "wish list". If this is for your wife - I would not buy it unless she has mentioned actually wanting one.
 
They sound like a vanity to me. Not that I don't believe in pampering; I believe in it very much. But with the hidden costs of energy being brought home daily, why electric towel warmers? There has to be a different way of finding pleasure that doesn't have such a high secondary cost.

My two cents, feel free to disregard them. I can't get my wife to turn off the TV when she leaves the house in the morning, so I'm used to it.

Yes, she mentioned it a while back. I remember these things :D

And it is a vanity. What sort of thing would I buy someone for Christmas that is not a vanity? Necessities we buy as needed. And by the way, we already do the charitable giving thing.

I Love Mine!

I bought an electric towel warmer a few years ago.. 3 years ago I think. Off eBay and paid something like $70 all in. Still going strong. It was a floor stand model but didn't stand very well so I had my DH mount it on the wall after about a month, which I like a whole lot better anyway as it's not tippy and is at a convenient usage height.

I do have an extension cord running from it to the outlet but as it's 99% behind the armoire I keep other stuff in, the cord isn't unsightly. Even if you had to tack the cord along the baseboard, it shouldn't be too bad if you take your time doing it.

I live in southeast Fl. Why do I "need" warm towels? I actually got the warmer as a way to dry out our towels between showers. Just hanging them didn't get them dry before the next use, especially during the winter when we have the A/C off. The fact in my house is that DH and DD would simply grab a new dry towel every time vs. using a damp towel... and those damp towels would quickly end up back in the dirty laundry pile. The cost of energy to needlessly wash/dry those damp towels would out weigh the cost of using the towel warmer (it's uses less than a light bulb of energy). I also use it to dry bathing suits as needed. I haven't done this but I can see putting a terry robe over the bars to toast it up too.

So... is a towel warmer a luxery? Yep. Do I want to give it up? Nope. I say go for it.. AFTER you take a close look at your bathroom and decide exactly where it would go (floor or wall mount), outlets, etc.,. Then pick a model (many to choose from) that suits your needs and decor style.
 
I love my towel warmer too! If your wife wants one - get it. I know I didn't pay alot of money for ours. DH and I each have one that stands in the corner of the bathroom - I pull mine over to the shower door - he just reaches lol!!!

Then by all means, yes, buy her one. You are definately right about NOT buying a necessary item, if it is a gift - it should be a "vanity". Especially if it is something that she would not buy herself.
 
We have just begun remodeling our MBR and a heated wall towel hanger is a must on my list. We also live in Fl. and sometimes in the winter, towels don't try that fast when windows are open. Besides...what a luxury...warm towels after a shower!!!! Please buy one for your wife. It's a great gift.
 
My sister had one and said it didn't work very well--only the part of the towel that actually went over the bar would get warm. I think she got rid of it when she moved. I'm sorry I don't recall anything about it other than that she didn't love it...but she probably did not get the cheapest one or the most expensive one.

I can understand wanting one if it works right, though--our bathroom is definitely on the chilly side. I would look at Amazon reviews carefully before buying one.
 
I think that it sounds like a nice luxury. I was at a spa recently and the warm towels felt so nice - as did the warm stones they took out of it.

If I had the space and extra money - I'd get one.

Enjoy - like is way to short.

Why not go all the way and also purchase an electric toilet seat. I know some people who have them and love them in the winter.
 
I know I would love to have one! We added on our master bedroom over the garage and the bathroom gets chilly in the winter. But my big concern is the fact that we have toddlers and it seems like an unnecessarily dangerous item to have one with curious toddlers around. So I'm going to wait for the kids to get older before telling DH a towel warmer is on my wish list.
 
Since I live in Southern California this idea is pretty funny to me!:hysterical:

However, if your wife did mention it then that means she would most likely enjoy having one! It's nice when husband's actually pay attention to these things. Yeah for you!

Today I received a catalog that had what looked like a clothes hamper but was called a towel warmer. It didn't have bars like a towel rack but a container with a lid. Maybe not as attractive but I guess just as functional.

Seems like a good idea to me--much more efficient. It would heat the whole towel and keep it all warm.
