A few weeks ago I stumbled across a FB post on an II page. The person was giving a bad review of a TS they stayed at becuase it felt it was asking too much for coffee/laundray items for the week. This person called the resort ahead of time and was told they could obtain extra items, but when they did, they were given to them reluntanly.

So, I ask. What are your expecations of supplies?

Personally: I expect coffee supplies for one night, laundry for one load, enough toilet paper, paper towels, dish detergent (sink and washer) and a spounge for the week. 2 Bar soaps and just one tiny set of shampoo/conditioner for each bathroom.

I'm pleasantly surprised when there is salt and pepper and enough coffee filters for the week. And LOVE when there is actually a all purpose cleaner to wipe down countertop mess with (but that is rare).

So, I ask. What are your expecations of supplies?

Pots and pans that are scratched and basically unusable. Dull knives. Stale coffee teabag. Overly scented shampoo/conditioner/lotion.

I have a dozen knives that I bought on vacation to use at the timeshare, and then mailed to myself as I left. On drive-to vacations, I'll bring one good cast-iron pan (which is more non-stick than teflon). Otherwise, I'll hit kitchen shops if necessary. Sometimes I leave the pan in the room. Other times I'll mail it to myself. I once mailed myself an oyster knife from France.

We are thrilled to find placemats, napkins, salt & pepper in the shakers. We expect bath soap, shampoo, dish (and dishwasher) soap, a sponge. one coffee service & filters for a week. Our 'regular' TS does this and housekeeping is open and will happily share supplies that they have.

The ONE thing that kind of galls me is empty salt & pepper & coffee filters. It pi$$es me off to have to pay for a 6 month's supply of these at resort c-store prices to have enough for a week.

Don't get me started on timeshare knives!

Jim

Since we drive to nearly all of our timeshare stays we bring our 'timeshare box' that contains lots of 'essentials'. I do enjoy when a resort supplies a tea pot as I hate making 1 cup at a time in a mug, but I carry a 6 cup teapot (with cozy) in the box in case they don't. I also have good sized mugs so we don't need to use the little ones that are often supplied. I also like when there is an electric kettle as they're faster than the ones on the stove. I never use the salt and pepper shakers when they are supplied and filled as I am nervous of what else could be in there. I have little Tupperware shakers in the timeshare box as well as a small pepper grinder. I also have a set of 'good knives' and a small sharpener if DH wants to try a timeshare one.

I am always happy to see lots of cutlery, dishes and glasses (more than what the capacity of the unit is) so I dont need to run the 1/2 empty dishwasher every day. We recently stayed at a 2 bedroom timeshare with sleeping for 8 but had dishes, glasses and cutlery for 12. They had 3 sizes of plates which I had never seen in a timeshare before. The luncheon size are perfect for bacon and eggs or a lunch salad instead of using a giant dinner plate.

Placemats are always appreciated but when they arent I use a couple sheets of paper towel. I also carry a couple of heat mats (to put the tea pot on) and a silicone pot grabber. I also bring a kitchen hand towel that fastens to the stove handle or a drawer pull so I can use it to dry my hands instead of wasting paper towel or using the dish towel. A good dishcloth or sponge is also nice to have.

I also have a few dishwasher tabs in case only one or 2 are supplied. As Jim mentioned above, I hate needing to buy a months supply or a big jar of something that I just need a few days worth. That is why I also carry little spice containers & condiment bottles in the timeshare box and the cooler.

At the timeshare I no longer have, I was surprised by little salt and pepper shakers and large pool towels. It was a 2 bedroom duplex with washer/dryer (with two small boxes of detergent) and two bathrooms (the usual shampoo etc).
At DVC (studio) I expect 2 regular coffee pouches and one decaf; supply of sugar packets and little creamers, dish soap/sponge, dish towel, 1small bottle of laundry detergent to use in the free washers/dryers centrally located, a supply of disposable plates, bowls, cups, utensils. Sometimes I get lucky and have real coffee mugs and wine glasses! Hand soap, H2O shampoo, conditioner, body wash and body lotion. Housekeeping will replenish if you ask.
in a one bedroom, all of the above plus 3 packets of dishwasher detergent, 2 small bottles of laundry detergent for the in room washer/dryer. And all real dishware. Full set of pots and 3 sizes of fry pans. First thing I do is check the cookware inventory. we actually cook a lot in our room or use the outdoor grills. Sure beats spending $$$ for Disney Priced food. Housekeeping will bring anything that’s missing (but if they would inventory after cleaning the unit, this could be avoided…and this annoys me a bit). Last trip I also requested a blender and they brought one up.
They used to charge you extra for more coffee and soaps, but that seems to not be the case any more. We are now also allowed to borrow the big luggage racks bell services uses. We usually schlep everything ourselves because we are too cheap but using the cart helps.

edited to add: knives are awful, we bring our own. If they supplied good knives, they would disappear. We used to have Fiestaware dishware at the Boardwalk Villas, but people started taking some home with them. This is why we can’t have nice things.

@moonstone i have 3 different plastic containers as my timeshare boxes. One is for health and beauty aids, one is for our studio stays (usually 2 nights….I just added cutlery service for 4 because the plastic utensils seem to be made a lot weaker now) and one for the one bedroom (spices, recipes, citrus strainer, garlic press, pizza cutter, cutting board). So much nicer to drive to Disney instead of fly.

YES, coffee filters. I almost always have them with me in my box of stuff I bring and of course the few times I forget those are the times they don't have. I must have about 6 packs of them under the counter from all those times I had to buy.

I expect at least one load of laundry soap, a few pods for the dishwasher and paper towels. After 24 years of timeshare ownership we’ve developed the habit of going to the grocery store either the first night or first morning. The coffee packets are nice, but I like real half/half instead of the powdered, so it’s not much use to us.

I once read a one star review because their car was hit by someone else’s car in the parking lot and the resort refused to pay for the damage. I also read some one star reviews because a resort decided to stop feeding the feral cats. You really have to read through the reviews before deciding if the online customer rating are real, or people angry about stupid, minor, inconvenient first world problems. To complain about the cost of extra laundry or coffee at a resort would be the same as complaining that convenience store prices are higher than regular grocery store prices, or that grocery store prices are higher than the large package stores like Sams Club or Costco.

We must be spoiled. There are always 2 bags of washing machine detergent for laundry, at least 8 tablets for the dishwasher, 2 dish liquid dish washing detergent, 2 bags each of regular and decaffeinated coffee, 7 coffee filters in the kitchen. If you need extra items just call the front desk and they will send housekeeping over with your request, no charge for the extra items.

2 rolls of paper towels in the kitchen with a sponge.

There are at least ten trash bags in the unit. These items are normally stock in every Marriott's resort on the East Coast. IMHO.

Silver serving for eight, placement mats, etc kitchen items.

I appreciate the little salt and pepper shakers, but do not expect them. I like to see a few dishtowels, sponges, and at least 3 dishwasher and detergent packets. I would like pot holders (none in the last exchange I had).
On our last exchange (5/13-20), we had to ask for more toilet paper, and the soap bars and shampoo bottles were so small they only lasted a couple of days (we bring some of our own because I am allergic to some scents).
I expect a corkscrew, and I like to see a pizza cutter. Serving spoons are also a plus.

If I'm paying $2,000/year in maintenance fees, I expect my HOA to provide my unit with sufficient coffee filters for a week, salt and pepper, and enough TP and laundry soap so I shouldn't have to go shopping for those during my vacation. If it can't provide those items on its tight budget, then charge me $2,001/year so it can.

(Full disclosure: I have learned to bring coffee filters and spices; should I really need to bring my own TP?)

No, you should not have to bring your own TP; between the master bath and the guest bath; there are at least ten (10) rolls of TP in our unit. LOL

Before I go on vacation (drive-to or fly), I sharpen my stainless pocket knife to razor sharp with a diamond file. I also bring with me (if staying for a couple of weeks) coffee, coffee filters, seasoning, 1 ounce bottle of olive oil, a bar of soap, and (if I remember - - some aluminum foil). My wife brings Downy, Tide-pods.

If my pocket knife gets dull while on the trip, I "touch it up" using the un-glazed part of the bottom of a ceramic coffee cup as the "stone". It doesn't sharpen as fast as a diamond file but it works well enough. So far, I have remembered to take the knife out of my pocket and put it into checked luggage. But eventually I'll probably forget and lose it to TSA.

So far my experiance with HGV and MVC is that i can easily request additional soap, shampoo. paper towels, laundry detergent etc. Heck i think they would even provide extra coffee, though I prefer buy my own good stuff.

As for the knives and pans, i agree those are usually beat up, but i just suffer though it.

My biggest pet peeve going to a trade is no salt and pepper. Even in covid, packets can be provided it’s not a big imposition. Other than that I do expect coffee filters paper towels and a dish cleaning implement be it a sponge or scrubbie , something. If those aren’t there then I’m mad, else I’m pretty forgiving…..

I got tired of not having some things I use on a regular basis. If driving to a timeshare, I have our "kitchen box," which has worked out well. It includes knives, wine opener, church key, wooden spoon, rubber spatula, creamer, sugar, olive oil, some spices, bagclips, wine stopper, salt, pepper, flour, tea, measuring spoons, plastic wrap, tin foil, coffee, coffee filters, a water enhancer, scrubby pad, sos pad, funnel, scissors, and now matches, as we had no way to light a candle on a birthday donut last trip out. Resort did not give out matches due to considering it a fire hazard. Box is 14 x 11 x 5. I also take laundry soap in a separate bag, as well as a collection of storage containers. (Empty sandwich meat containers) If you eat out for every meal, you can disregard this information. We do a lot of in unit cooking, as going out for most meals becomes prohibitive when you travel one out of every three days of the year.

Absolutely! We've just come back from an exchange into a very recently refurbished "super luxury delux" lodge. It had sleeping for 8, but only glasses and dishes for 4. On the other hand, although there was only one size of plate (huge!) there were 36 of them. And supposedly brand new kitchen knives that were so blunt that the handles were sharper than the blades!

Who kits these places out and seriously thinks they've done a good job?

Quick tip for dull knives. Being a flight attendant for 33 years, and most of us having to come up with solutions for problems that developed on the planes, especially after "911", the airlines quit giving us sharp carving knives for meat. Just bring a few emery boards with different grits and use those to sharpen the dull knives!

My pet peeves are dull knives, and small coffee mugs!
My wife and I both enjoy lots of AM coffee, and it is annoying
when you have to refill it 2-3 times.

On the plus side, we recently stayed at a place that
let us check out an air fryer! Great to warm up left overs!

Nope- should not be expected to bring your own TP! That being said, we ususally bring a roll of softer TP on every trip!

I expect kitchen supplies appropriate to the unit I'm entering. And dish cleaning supplies - or a reasonably quick response from housekeeping for resupply if supplies are inadequate. And coffee and tea for the first morning. Certainly bathroom fluids for a night or two and definitely TP!

I will call the TS ahead of time to find out what coffee maker is used (nowadays there are often Keurigs or Nespresso). If I need pods I'll order and have them shipped to arrive the day of (or day before) arrival so no need to get them replaced (since it either costs a lot or if free it will take hours to get it delivered.) I bring a good sized mug and a whipper as I'm addicted to lattes. Not a fan of dry creamer. They can generally tell you at the front desk if there are s/p shakers, extra coffee and filters, and lots of shampoo and conditioning. I love the recent trend toward mounting very nice soaps, shampoos, and conditioners on the wall of the shower, getting rid of all that plastic used in minicontainers.

I have a TS box for drive to timeshares and for sure include knives, presharpened. Foods of course. This summer I'll be on a five week road trip involving 95% timeshares with kitchens or kitchenettes. I think I'll throw in a good fry pan but expect a reasonable pot(s).

We are Marriott timeshare owners. We have been timesharing since 1996 and our expectations for what should be in a timeshare unit has decreased over the years. We now only expect toilet paper, one roll of paper towels, one small dish soap, three dish washer detergents, a few trash bags and a bar of soap for the bathroom. That is all we count on now.

We bring or buy the following when we stay at a timeshare:

More paper towels
Trash bags
Dish soap
Dishwasher soap
Sponge
Laundry soap
Clorox wipes or other cleaning products
Coffee
Coffee filters
Coffee creamer and sweetener
Tea
Sharp knife
Knife sharpener
Plastic cutting board
Sometimes our large coffee mugs
Extra dish towels
Salt, pepper and other spices
Ziplock bags
Foil
All of our own shampoo, soap and other toiletries

We prefer to bring or buy the crap we know we will need. Some resorts will be happy to supply anything you ask for. Some resorts act like it is a crime to ask for one roll of toilet paper.
