What are the restrictions on HVC Platinum resale points?

Does anyone know whether Hyatt Vacation Club restricts points that were purchased on the resale market?

Can the Experiences Collection can be booked with "resale" points?

Please list any restrictions that you know of!

Many thanks!

Hyatt Vacation Club points only book direct with Hyatt Vacation Club properties, but you can book other Hyatt properties through II. HVC does not have a Key West property but I am able to book Hyatt there using II. You will have to pay a transfer fee which are supposedly reduced for HVC owners. As for points needed, my Welk points are 240000 which is enough for a 2 bedroom at many places. Key West is 275000 for a week in a 2 bedroom

We just got a HVC resale and you can't use World of Hyatt (WOH), Beyond, or Juants. Basically, you can use them to book through one of their 3 collections: heritage, platinum, & experience. The Experience Collection you have to book a week at a time. There are 36 total locations between the three collections. You can also convert your points into the Interval (II).

We just got our points last month and used points that were about to expire through II to stay 4 days in Monterrey, CA. The exchange rate wasn't great for this particular booking, but did get us a free week in II. We have also booked at 2 locations (Tahoe & Escondito) in the collections they were a great deal based on what the trip would have cost.

So far, this is working out really well for us, but time will tell. I am keeping track of how much each trips lodging would have cost compared to our maintenance fee (MF).

You are able to book directly into Heritage collection or is that through II?

Also curious how many points you bought and where. We are looking to buy and it is just so hard to get all the info in one place.

We purchased 840k points through someone on this platform. They were incredibly helpful through the process which we greatly appreciated as newbies. This site was the most useful as we tried to learn. I basically read everything I could find about HVC.

Directly.

Since the timeshare itself was "free" we decided to take the gamble and give it a try with the thought that we would give it for free here if it wasn't a good fit for our family.

I thought the HVC Platinum points (formerly Welk) could only book legacy Welk properties. Properties in the Heritage collection (the HRC system) could only be used by legacy deeded weeks owners and through HRC Portfolio points.

I could be wrong, but being able to book directly into Heritage with Platinum points would be a game changer. Wouldn't that also mean that the two points programs have merged?

@Rtravels65: We went to an Owner's Update today for Hyatt Vacation Club (formerly Welk). We discovered that HVC has absorbed Hyatt Residence Club, so there are now 16 Heritage Properties; HVC used to have 8 properties. These can be viewed at https://thelounge.hyattvacationclub.com/resorts/heritage_collection/ .

@DN4 : Thank you for the information you've posted on this thread. It is very helpful as I strive to help a family member understand the difference in using resale vs. retail points.

Hi you said there are a total of 36 locations btw the three collections. do you know the point conversation with HVC pts to heritage? Or that is trade through II only? Thank you!

no dispute on the number of resorts, however I believe there is a major question on being able to RESERVE all those resorts (especially the legacy hyatt ones) with platinum/welk points? ive never heard anyone claim that is possible using resale welk points, so this would indeed be big news if confirmed vs just something a salesperson said!

the bookings mentioned above were all (at least at first glance) welk resorts?

Thanks for this post. I currently have 240 and Ive been wanting to make it 480 so I can take a couple more weeks. Ive been wondering if its going to make me create a different profile or will I be able to combine my points?

If resale, you are buying two separate contracts with two MFs. However, you should be able to transfer points if you need, for example, 300K points for your reservation.
