My co - worker owns with them and offered to refer me. However I was wondering what my chances were of getting a trade for Spring Break ... if I do an ongoing search for up to 2 years out?

Also...which is cheaper? the referral? or the exchange?

I believe that either way you have to pay an all-inclusive fee of $1,000 or so per person. We discussed this awhile back - I will look for the link and the link to their website and post it.

I'm still looking for the AI fees, but if you are thinking about taking the kids you should know this:

Can we bring our children with us?

Children under the age of 15 years are not allowed on shared charters. If you wish to bring children under this age the only way this is possible is if you privately charter a whole boat. Please contact our Grenadines office or email us at info@tradewindscruiseclub.com for the current rates to make a private charter with a four or five cabin boat.

By the time you pay all the exchange fees and the MF on the week you used and the AI fee and TRY to get the week you want, I think it would be better to just pay the referral fee and GOT the week you wanted.

It would be pretty comparable in price, and with the referral you just get to pick the week you want outright.

If you are thinking of bringing kids that is an issue. You get ONLY get a single referral cabin, not two. You can only be referred ONCE ever. Plus as the previous poster mentioned, no kids under 15. There are occassionaly some family charters but I don't think that they would be made available via a trade.

Sandy - how much does membership cost?

Also...

How much is a referral week cost? Was planning on this being a DH and me only trip...of a DH / DS bonding trip.

Also, I went on their website and they have some special deal for RCI members...is that worth any real savings?

Membership costs depends on how many weeks you purchase, but for arguement sake lets make it $1000 per cabin per week. Obviously the more weeks you purchase the less each week costs, but the more money you spend. It depends...... is the answer. MFs are $506 per cabin for 2009, plus the membership all inclusive fee is $750. The RCI exchange all inclusive fee is higher. Diving is included for most members at no charge (for all except "Classic" Level Members). Referrals and RCI exchanges must pay per dive.

So for 2009 it costs an owner $1000 + 750 + 506 = $2256.

The referral rate for 2008 was $2375 per cabin (2 people). That does not include 2 dinners ashore nor the tip, but all else is included. My guess is that it went up for 2009, but I have yet to receive an email on how much the referral went up. I know the MFs went up because of fuel and insurance so I would assume the referral went up as well.

If you exchange you still must pay your MFs, the international exchange fee, plus the all inclusive fee. So if you can get the exchange you want with a inexpensive deposit you will be better off, but with a referral you can likely pick the week you want for about what it costs an owner for a week.

Now for a comparison, Moorings does crewed yacht charters and these run for about $2400 Per Person for a similiar trip.

Thanks Sandy...than I guess I need to put in a exchange request early for that type of trip and be opened to ANY of the Tradewinds locations to boot.

The owner price is a good average, but low for most owners, and skips one of the all inclusive fees. The cheapest way to go on TradeWinds is a member referral at about $2395. Our membership cost closer to $1250/week. The All inclusive fee is $750/person, so $1250+($750x2)+$506 = $3262 for us. For a trade, you pay your maintenance fee plus the exchange fee plus the $2395 all inclusive fee. They also have last calls for $400 + $2395. (We purchased 12 weeks over 12 years for $14900. 6 weeks over 12 years was about $7900, 25 weeks was $24900, 50 weeks was about $44900.) I think prices have gone up about $2000 per contract since then. Some locations now have a tax of something like 15%.

Try for a referral and try to get the week you want, and if not, see if you can buy a week from an owner. We've sold one to friends before because we needed more cabins than we could get using referrals. (Only one referral per owner cabin used.)

Good luck.

Yeah I guess that is better that way I can chose the week I want....
