I have been watching a listing on e-bay (#270926858683) for a Marriott Aruba Ocean Club, 1 bedroom annual oceanview gold week (wks. 18-50)
which is lested at $499. with only 1 bidder and 2 days to go. It is listed by Seth Nock, who has a great reputation from what I have read on this board. This seems like a great deal to me, but I am relatively new to timesharing and have a lot to learn. Can anyone enlighten me?
Thanks.

People don't bid that early - there will be lots of snipping bids.

And Seth is absolutely wonderful to work with.

Yep, I agree. We just bought Oceana Palms on Ebay and we did not bid until there was only 1 minute left. We bid what we were willing to pay and won the auction for less than our top number.

Good luck!

You are correct. eBay units get bid up significantly in the last hour. You may see some posturing on the last day of bidding well before the auction ends, but the serious sniping is always reserved for the last minute.

Also, I just purchased an Aruba Surf Club 2BR unit from Samuel Rodriguez (works with Seth), and he kept at it for just about 8 months in order to find the unit I wanted at my price. I'd recommend him and their company to anyone looking to purchase a timeshare.

Good luck on the bidding!

I bid with 8 seconds or less left. Other bidders do not have time to respond. Other experienced bidders will do the same thing. Many have a service to do the bid for them with 5 sec left. This also does not give you time to up your bid in the heat of the moment..that can be a good thing also. Do your due diligence, decide on your top price and give it one shot.

Plus don't tell all the Tuggers about great deals. Other Tuggers might out bid you. My recommendation is just ask about sellers.

Another Tugger and I were bidding on the same unit at Oceana Palms! We discovered that after the fact. I only bid so early (at 1 minute) because we were actually at a Timeshare location at the time and their internet was REALLY slow!

You guys were right. The bidding on this timeshare took off only today and it just ended going for $2550. This has to be a rock-bottom price for a Marriott Aruba Ocean Club, no? Did a Tugger get it?

I wonder what the MF's are, and whether the MF for a 1BR versus a 2BR just make buying a 2BR a more appealing purchase, esp. in this market.

s.

The MFs on this unit are $1040. vs. approximately $1400. for a 2 - bedroom. Still, I have never seen a Marriott Aruba Ocean Club 1 bedroom gold ocean view sell so low. Is this an all-time low? Should I be sorry I let it get away?

The lowest I've seen was about a thousand more, bought by a Tugger. That is really low, esp. since the 2BR's are going for roughly three times that (and more in many cases). It could be just an aberration (and a great deal for the lucky winner) or reflect the much greater appeal of a 2BR over a 1BR. A lot of people buying Gold weeks look for summer/family vacations, which 2BR are better suited for.

You should always set a snipe to go with about 5 or 10 seconds left. Otherwise you are just running up the price of an auction. Makes no sense.

What a great price for this resort. I will now only bid in the last 15 seconds.

It still amazes me how people get into bidding wars with days left, which just ups the price. In other things (and I've even seen it in the past on timeshares, although a rarer occurrence) people will get so caught up in a bidding war that they will pay more than another item is listed for at a buy it now pricing.
