What’s your favorite Myrtle Beach Resort?

Hilton Anderson😢😢. So disappointed!
The other HGVCs are nice, Ocean 22 and Ocean Enclave. I haven't stayed personally at the Ocean Enclave but from what other TUG members have stated. I understand your disappointment with HGVC AOC.

Must drive to beach, at least for us. Parking is always at a premium when talking about beach access. Plug it into google earth and check it out. Easiest way to beach is straight down 29th St.
Thanks for the details Bucky. “Figure it out yourself” is one of my favorite TUG replies. I’d never heard of Google maps before. Now I know everything!

Suggestion only for public parking at MB. Leave between 8:45AM and 9:30AM Monday thru Friday. Weekend parking can be a hassle. IMHO.

Dealbreaker! It sounds like the answer is an oceanfront resort

If going during prime time, definitely. When we venture to MB in the summer to go to Costco we take Carolina Parkway (31) to 501 to go to Costco. Get back on 501 to Carolina Parkway and head home. Avoid 17 at all costs. It’s gotten so busy. There are really great places to eat and lots of fun things to do. But I would keep my car parked at a resort and walk if I was staying there. I have seen shuttle vans from a place called the dunes I think when we’ve attended concerts … Long Bay Symphony plays at Myrtle Beach HS…very enjoyable performances.

If the beach is important to you, then Sheraton Broadway Resort isn't the right fit.

The beach is the thing for us. It does not compute to me to go to a beachy place in a non beachy time of year or to a location in the beachy place such that getting to the beach itself is a hassle.

On an intellectual level I understand people do this, and I even recognize that I myself might enjoy going to a beachy place but not going to the beach (although probably I wouldn't). But despite knowing this, when this issue comes up on TUG, it always confuses me until someone mentions that there's reasons people go to beach towns other than to lie on the beach. Then I'm like- oh yeah, I forgot, not everyone is me.

Thank you for solidifying Hiltons other two resorts are very nice😊😊

We drive to the Marriott Hotel and Park. We like that area plus we get to use the bar there.

I assume there's a daily fee? And it officially ok to park there?

I love Google Earth. Maps are great for directions but if I just want to check an area out I use Earth. If the beach is one’s primary daily destination my recommendation on a budget would be Sheraton Plantation and go to the State Park daily. Easy parking and nice beach.
Now this is only my opinion.
Not only yours. More like an informed opinion! Parking in MB from May-August is a premium almost everywhere

No daily fee. Yes since you are using their bar and grill. The other thing we do is get an Uber to the beach that’s 5 mins from the Sheraton.
The Sheraton has an arrangement with one other hotel on the beach but it’s further down on the strip and we prefer going up north for our beach days which is usually only 2 days anyway.

Another ocean front resort with a lazy river is Dune Villages in North MB.

I’m you. I lived most of my life in Indiana. The beach is the thing, no way I’d drive that far and not be toes in sand any time of day without driving. Even when I was a kid, we weren’t doing the attractions, we were at the beach. I guess some people get bored with it but I never tire of it. Once I make it down there, it’s hard for me to leave. Many times, I extend, if there’s room (off-season, there usually is, I rarely have to move).

Also need a balcony to look at ocean, hear it, see the sunrise, watch dolphins, etc.

Bluegreen’s Shorecrest is my favorite because I can get that ocean front, have covered parking, indoor pool or hot tub if I want it. Outdoor has same plus lazy river (not big but peaceful if kids aren’t swimming in it). I will go in any season, usually before or after Prime Time. I don’t have a problem putting on a parka to walk on the beach. Simply lying on the sand isn’t my thing, but it is for a friend I take periodically, so I do that when she’s along and she does a bit of beach walking with me.

Since I don’t care about attractions, North Myrtle Beach works for me. Heading there April 27, coming up!

Then I’m going back with two friends to Carolina Grande in the fall, one friend has never been to MB. I avoid RCI, Bluegreen has enough choice for me, including getting a nice three bedroom. Sure, cross the street to get to the beach, but balcony gives me view. Made sense to be near attractions for this friend that might want to return with her son another time. Plus, second bedroom at Shorecrest is crammed two twin beds. Fine, but I wanted a better experience for a first time travel buddy.

People have their own interests and preferences. Like, I’m cheap, rarely eat out. I prefer to go get fresh seafood (from Mr Fish) and grill in front of the ocean or steam some crab legs in the unit. My dollar goes a lot farther, I save time, too. Many people say they would never cook on vacation, and I understand that, it’s just not something I can economically pull off. Further, I haven’t spent decades with the job of cooking for a family so it’s not the same kind of daily grind that others have experienced. I also am probably weird in that I like to cook in kitchens that aren’t mine. I don’t know why, just something I discovered when we started timesharing.

I have also stayed at Harbour Lights on the inter coastal waterway. Not beach but I do like sitting on the screen porch and watching boats go by (always ask for waterfront). There is almost always room there but having done the studio or hotel unit or whatever they call it, I will not ever settle for that again. By myself, I’m fine walking up three floors, but probably wouldn’t do that to a travel mate. I like the clubhouse as any time I can shoot pool, it’s hard to not spend a lot of time doing that.

These days I mostly travel solo and live within 6 hours of Shorecrest. Plenty of times I’ve woken up and thought, I’d rather be at the beach, and I’m checked in by dusk. My neighbor may or may not be going with me later this month, either way, I’ll be there and have whatever gear I need for the weather forecast because I will be on the beach. Bigger problem is what funky arts n crafts to make with the zillion shells….

This is us. We are ocean-front balcony beachfront people, and beachwalkers. We'll also sit out under an umbrella in beach chairs - but not all day - maybe for a couple hours at most, then we're beachwalking up to the inlet and back - we always stay at TOTG in Cherry Grove area.

When we stay at TOTG for two weeks - we cook in the unit quite a bit. The grocery store is right down the street - walking distance - so we will wander over almost every day for something or other and just pick up whatever fresh meat or seafood suits our fancy. Boulineau's also has a liquor store, gas station and car wash, etc., one stop shopping basically. We will still eat out several times a week while there - but we also use the kitchen quite a bit especially for breakfast and lunch.

We stayed at Harbour Lights once in 2018 - nice place. It was our free BG trial stay. We bought a trial membership with BG while there and used that membership to stay at other BG locations like Shenandoah Crossing.

My wife loves picking up shells while beachwalking and has made several arts n crafts from her shells over the years. We will be at TOTG toward the end of May through early June for our annual two week vacay.

We are “sit out under an umbrella + intermittently swim in the ocean” types. Most of the day.

My ideal is to hit the beach 10 or 10:30, and be out there until happy hour or so. Start the day with a relaxing, unconstructed morning (or maybe get a few hours of work in). Pack a cooler and have a simple lunch on the beach. Cook an easy dinner because I’m tired from the sun and sea and by the time I’ve showered, I don’t really want to go out to eat.

I don’t mind an ocean view but I really only need a pleasant view. Parking lot: ugh. Nice landscaping or a pool: fine. Ocean: cherry on the top.

I grew up near ocean beaches in New York. Cold water, serious rough surf and we were just kids but we’d swim all day and wind up deliciously tired. Then something simple for dinner once we got home like grilled burgers and corn on the cob, with watermelon for dessert. I think that really ingrained in me what a day at the beach is “supposed” to be.
