Westin Riverfront Mountain Villas: Recommendations for Restaurants and Villa Requests

We were fortunate to be able to book 6 nights in August using Abound points for a 2BR. I would appreciate recommendations regarding villa location requests and restaurants/ things to do in the area. We are familiar with Vail village and Lionshead, but haven't stayed in Avon.
 
I'd request a high floor with a river view. When I went, a lot of restaurants were closed because it was before Memorial Day. I enjoyed eating at Fattoria, an Italian restaurant.

Avon has a lot less things to do than Vail. The concierge kept sending us to Edwards to find places to eat during the slow season. Vail is not far, so if you have a favorite there, you might consider driving there.

The Westin hotel next door has a nice looking restaurant. I didn't try it, though.
 
We stay at WRF and SMV around 6 times per year, mostly in ski season, and we mostly avoid the real expensive restaurants. Some of our favorites that are reasonably priced and very close include Ticino Italian, Bob’s Place (not fancy but good), Pazzo’s Pizza, Northside Kitchen, Southside Bendrz, plus the Coyote Cafe at the Beaver Creek base area. There are higher end places as well, many at the Beaver Creek base.

The river facing view is best, but the other side is ok. How high up doesn’t matter much. There are two floors of river facing rooms on the parking levels, which we find quite convenient (especially if we have our mountain bikes) even if they are the lowest floors.

Congrats are being able to book the Westin Riverfront Villas….not easy! Any room on the riverside is best, but the opposite side is not bad. We like Avon a lot with a decent selection of restaraunts and Edwards is also nice. Vail is very nice but almost too many choices. Our must go to restaurants in Avon are Vin 48 and Ticino. We bring our ebikes as there is a great bike path that runs at least between Edwards and Vail. It’s quite flat along the river so regular bikes would work too.
 
We stay at RiverFront quite often in the summer. The lowest level on the river side doesn't have a river view but does have a nice benefit of walking right out your balcony door to the BBQ grills, firepit, bocce ball court and the paved trail that runs along the river.

We use the Westin hotel lobby bar, pool and infinity hot tubs extensively. Gorgeous setting looking up into the Beaver Creek valley.

Beaver Creek is right up the hill with many great food choices. You can use the Westin's shuttle to take you up/back to Beaver Creek which enables everyone to enjoy the events including free outdoor music concerts without parking hassles.

Nottingham Lake is within walking distance of RiverFront. We often paddleboard there while live concerts going on in the evenings. Quite a good playground and wading creek for kids/grandkids.

The park area around the lake hosts art fairs, bike races, free concerts throughout the summer.

FYI, the Westin shuttle is a great resource. They will shuttle you to Vail village and back, as well as Beaver Creek and back. Think you gonna love dinner at Riverfront.

If you get the chance take a day trip to Glenwood Springs.

Mirabelle's. --very close at the entrance of BC.
Junipers in Edwards.
Vista at Arrowhead.

Thanks for the recommendations. My daughter and I are actually taking the train to Glenwood Springs and my brother is picking us up to drive back to the timeshare (with a stop at Costco in Eagle). We love Glenwood Springs and are staying at the Residence Inn.
 
We just returned from a wonderful week at this resort. We were fortunate to get a third floor river view villa with a great balcony overlooking the Eagle River. The location makes this our favorite summer mountain resort. None of the Park City MVC resorts have balconies, and we like the Avon location better than that of the Ritz in Lionshead. Since we had such a great view and were well-stocked with wine from Costco, we got carryout every night from restaurants within easy walking distance. Ticino Italian, Bob’s Place, and Pazzo’s Pizza were all excellent and reasonably priced. The only bad meal was from China Garden, which was one of the worst Chinese meals I've ever had. My daughter and I also enjoyed coffee beverages at the Loaded Joe's in Vail. Avon Bakery was conveniently located across the street (adjacent to a Burger King and Starbucks), and had excellent breakfast options and sandwiches on fresh-baked breads.

We really like the location because it is in a more natural setting than the Ritz, and has several reasonably priced food options within easy walking distance. The bike trail was adjacent to the resort and I was told that it extended all the way to Glenwood Springs. We ended up not taking the train on this trip because it would have left Chicago on the last day of the DNC (A previous train trip from Chicago was disrupted by professional protestors riding our train). We learned about 'Bustang' that runs buses from Glenwood Springs to Denver with reasonable fares and it stops next to the resort. This would minimize the need for a rental car on future trips and enable us to avoid the drive from Denver. Traffic on I70 is getting worse and we had an 18 mile detour on our drive to the resort due to 70 being closed due to an accident.

The best thing about the trip is that we enjoyed great weather with highs in mid 70's and avoided the hottest week in Cincinnati (upper 90's) in 20 years.
 
I have a question about the ski shuttles at Westin Riverfront... Do they stop at Lionshead Village in Vail? I'm planning to go there on Tuesday. Thanks in advance.

  • Big B's Soup & Grilled cheese is where we stop on the drive from Denver to the ski resorts. Located in Idaho Springs.
  • Ed'z for Comfort Food
  • Northside Kitchen for breakfast
  • Juniper for high end dinner. Loved the pairings of the entrees with the side dishes
  • Aritza (I do not recommend. I got lured in b/c I love tapas. Average. Really weird service)
  • Fattoria. Wonderful food. They have their own gardens. Even better hospitality.
  • Mirabelle
  • Grouse Mountain Grill. High end.
 
I’m here and was able to get the shuttle schedules in case anyone needs it. Also, the gondola isn’t running yet 😑

When I was there in August, I discovered a Bustang stop right around the corner from the timeshare. They off regular service to Denver Union Station and Glenwood Springs at very reasonable fares. We plan to take it from Glenwood Springs on our next trip.

Beau Jo's in Idaho Springs for the best pizza. We stop by on the way down from the mountains on I-70. It's expensive for pizza, but well worth it. Try honey on the pizza crust.
 
Speaking of pizza, I was there in Dec of 2024 and the pizza of the month at Blue Moose Pizza (they have locations in Vail and Beaver Creek) was made with spicy pepperoni, honey, goat cheese and garlic. We like it so much we requested it when we went back this past December and they made it for us! Highly recommend if that combination sounds good to you.
 
We had a terrible experience on our return trip. I had a scheduled Uber from Westin Riverfront in Avon to Eagle/Vail (EGE) airport for an early morning flight. The Uber didn't show up and there was no location indicator regarding the location of the driver. The estimated arrival time kept getting pushed back and we sat there for twenty minutes. At 5:30 am there aren't many option and it was too late to try to order a taxi. Fortunately, an Epic Mountain shuttle bus showed up to pick up two other people at the resort and we were able to ride this shuttle. Uber is totally unreliable in this area, but Epic Mountain is a good option and fares seem to be reasonable. Although Bustang also stops in Eagle, it's location isn't near the airport so it isn't good for this purpose. Here is the link to Epic.
