I just traded and received a confirmation for a 2bd/2bth the week of Oct 4/2009. I don't know anything about this resort and I didn't see it on the resort review.

Does anyone have any thoughts about this resort? Is it nice?

We just returned from Lihue and stayed at The Beachboy. We liked the island, but didn't get a chance to see the Princeville area.

Thanks.

Westin Princeville Ocean Resort Villas - This is the brand new Starwood resort on Kauai - it is VERY nice and VERY upscale.

The only downside is that it isn't ocean front.

Consider yourself VERY fortunate...

As far as I know, it is the newest timeshare resort in Hawaii. I'll be there in January and will be able to give a first hand account after that. But, until then, what it has going for it is the lavish grounds that I have seen in pictures and its location in my beloved Princeville... my favorite resort area in all of Hawaii.

The North Shore is lavishly lush, offering the scenic beauty of a wild imagination, and bestower of perfect peace upon those who visit.

How is the resort and area of Princeville for small kids (ages 5 and 3)?
Is the weather okay this time of year (first week of October)?

Thanks

It has a nice kids pool, a kids club (not cheap) and the weather in Oct. should be nearly the same as summer. Nov. is the start of the rainy season. Princeville itself is an upscale golf community and I don't think it especially caters to children, but most 3 & 5 year olds are very happy at the beach or pool. Be very careful with sun exposure with the kids - it's far more than we are used to on the mainland. I'd buy SPF protective bathing suits for them, which cover most of the body, to make sun protection easier.

Our kids enjoyed all of Kauai, including the North Shore, at that age. There are several nice protected beaches (like Ke-e Beach) that are good for swimming at that time of year. Your kids might also like snorkelling with you at Hideaways Beach (as long as the ocean is flat) since the reef is right next to the shore and is in shallow-ish water.

They will like the Wet and Dry Caves. You can take them kayaking on the Hanalei River with you, and even kayak out into Hanalei Bay. Secret Beach is a fun little hike to it and has a great, huge beach....but the water will probably be too much for your kids.......but it is a great place to make sandcastles and if you turn to the left when you hit the beach you will find tide pools of every shape and size that your kids can explore, paddle around in, wade through.....they could probably spend a whole day there if they're adventurous.

Of course, with everything on the North Shore be very aware of the waves. They shouldn't be "too powerful" at that time of year....BUT....!!!!! Get the Kauai Revealed book and they give excellent write-ups on each beach, including a basic analysis of safety.

My wife and I are leaving for Kauai tomorrow and will be staying at the Westin Princeville Ocean Resort. Ill let you know how it goes.
