We just received a confirmation for the Westin Nanea. The code is DTOBR which I think means Developer 2 bedroom. I'm very happy about it, but then I read some bad reviews about the property. Anyone stayed there and have any insights? Can you recommend a unit to request?
 
Bad reviews? It's Westin and one of my favorite resorts on Maui. Lovely, quiet for sleeping.
 
Isn't TOBR parking lot view and noisy as in some of the reports here on TUG? I am on the fence whether it is good to stay there or not with TOBR.

I agree. We were there in 2022 and are going there in November. It is a beautiful resort.

If you get an exchange, less than $1,900 for a full week for most of us, what does it matter if you get on the parking structure side? These are almost entirely 2 bedrooms. I think of our son as a very picky person, yet the parking structure view was just fine with him. The kitchens are fantastic, and they have three little kids. The kids were happy to run around and play in the units. He looked at the weekly rates for Westin and couldn't believe the prices Marriott charges.

What's not to love? The pools are fantastic, and you can visit the other Westin pools; the kitchen is very well-equipped; Westin Heavenly Beds and Bath. Fantastic resort.
 
@rickandcindy23 Now that you put it into perspective. :) I currently have a trade into a 2BR Nanea which costs me about $900 all in for next May. I have a beer budget with champagne taste husband and it will take a bit of convincing to get him to go. Moreover he does not like Maui. But I cannot resist a good deal.

Can you still visit the other Westin properties? What unit are you going to request?
 
Years ago I had a unit near the parking structure. I didn’t care about the location, but within the unit with windows closed and air conditioning on I could hear the beep beep beep of the shuttle…which would wake me up. I moved to a different unit. That would not be relaxing to me. It did this because the shuttle had to back up to get out of the area.

Does anyone know if the shuttle still runs the same way with the same beep beep beep?

You need white noise. The Amazon video of Del Norte ocean waves runs 10 hours and is a dark screen. We sleep anywhere with that video on our TV in the bedroom.

Call the front desk a few weeks before arrival and ask for an inside view. Tell them you don't want an outside view.

Absolutely not when on vacation, I use a real mechanical white noise machine when home on occasion and I refuse to use one when on vacation.

We use it nightly at home. It lulls me to sleep. We live in a very quiet neighborhood, so it doesn't need to mask noise.

We own at Hono Koa, one of four oceanfront units, and we are 40 feet to the water for 3 weeks, and the ocean sound is so relaxing at Hono Koa. Del Norte ocean waves reminds us of vacation.

The problem we have with TV's at resorts is the TV times out after a few hours, for whatever reason. Disney, Sheraton, and many others have that issue. But Westin seems to work all night, which is good.

Based on your laughter of my last comment, I suppose your definition of a vacation is markedly different than mine.
 
I have to sleep in absolutely quiet and dark environment. White noise doesn't work for me. When I am really tired and sleepy, a little bit of noise is fine.

No, not at all. You are opposite of me. I cannot sleep in quiet, never have been able to sleep in quiet. I shared a room with my two sisters when we were kids. It was not quiet even then with our music to fall asleep on our 9V transistor radio with the terrible sound. I also have to have weight on my feet when I sleep, so I toss a pillow on my feet to sleep on vacation. At home, we have a weighted blanket.

I usually watch TV until I get drowsy, then I put the Amazon ocean video on after I start to get sleepy. Rick can sleep anywhere, anytime, and he would probably prefer no noise. He doesn't get drowsy with the TV on.

This all started with Rick at the firehouse every third night with the TV watching, basically 1975. I would watch TV to keep my mind off of work, also because Rick wasn't home. It was a splurge back then to add a TV to the bedroom, but I needed it. Reading a book to get drowsy works for me as well, but even the light of that bothers Rick.

I am glad Westin was able to move you to a quieter location. Sleep is important.

Same here. After over 30 years of traveling to Hawaii, my husband says that he gets bored there. I am anything but bored there.

And Rick would rather extend our stays from 5-6 weeks a year to more like 8 weeks per year.

With as many deposits that I will have with our Sheraton Broadway this year (which is not renting AT ALL), I can make him happy with more Maui weeks. Maybe we will do 2 X six weeks next year to use some of the Sheraton, but I need to at least get 1 bedrooms. The studios are too tight.
 
Right now it is looking like I will release the Nanea week somewhere down the line. We are talking about taking a golf cruise in Europe next year, which means beaucoup bucks. We used to spend a ton on cruises staying in suites before COVID. Somehow I am doing more cost analysis... well, with the money we could buy another new car or the money can go towards a ktichen remodel...
