We are heading to Westin Lagunamar Nov 1. Need suggestions on transportation from the airport. We also need suggestions on where to buy groceries. What should I bring with us (food, condiments)

Set up transportation with the concierge at WLR. They will be waiting for you and take you strait to the resort. Make sure you bypass all the timeshare people after you clear customs.

I wouldn't bother packing food unless you have specific dietary needs. Grocery prices are similar to the US (I see you're from Canada: I assume the grocery prices would be similar). There's now a supermarket across the street from Lagunamar:

I haven't been there myself, but I'm looking forward to going there next Summer, rather than making the trip to downtown. There's also another new supermarket on the north end of the hotel zone:

Chedraui Selecto is awesomeness. Soriana is there, kinda handy but wish we has done Chedraui first. It's right by the bus and dock and has great choice and great quality. A Mexican Whole Foods without the Whole Paycheck, especially with their NYC price gouge.

That first supermarket isn't right across the street. It's a few blocks down. We walked there but took a cab back since we had groceries. The 2nd grocery store north in the hotel zone is an easy bus ride. It's huge! Definitely wish we would've started there but went to the closer one for convenience.

The hotel will coordinate your airport transportation. They were very helpful and did well communicating. Highly recommend using them vs. an outside company.

Thanks for correcting the location info on the Soriana store. Even if it's not right across the street, I'm glad to hear it's walkable (at least one way). It sounds like it's still worth the trip up north to the Chedraui Selecto for the initial store run.

A Backpack is Useful

We use a backpack as one of our carry-on bags. We then have it available to carry groceries back to our unit...much easier than lugging things in grocery bags. With a backpack, Soriana at Kukuklan mall becomes walkable, as long as you are not bringing home a big jug of water.

Thank you all!

I also want to know if it is possible to request which building prior to arrival. We exchanged but Starwood owners. I don't know if being tarwood owners make a difference

Also who do I call to arrange transportation with WLR?

The WLR concierge will send an email a couple of weeks ahead of time asking if you'd like to set up the airport pickup. You can make the building request with them as well. If the reservation was made with SOs, you can make a building request on mystarcentral.

It was through II.

I guess you can call the resort directly in that case. I have had good luck with the concierge seeing to our requests. It wouldn't hurt to let them know that you are Starwood owners.

I will try, thank you!

USA Transfers / Entertainment Plys

There is quite a bit of discussion on this in the Mexico forum. WLR uses "The One." I've used USA Transfers / Entertainment Plus in the past. They are cheaper than WLR and very reliable. You can also book the time to the grocery store as well. I'll be using them again for my 2015 WLR week.

We visited in July of this year and had a great time! I second selecto chedraui. It was the most amazing store- located approximately at km 9, you get off at the playa caracol stop and walk across the street. Soriana is good when you want to take a short walking trip to grocery store. Maybe bring some backpacks to carry groceries back in? They (Soriana's) also have a delivery program that stops running at 7pm, nominal fee.

We used entertainment plus(USA transfers) and they were wonderful.

As far as a building request, I tried when concierge called me but they said I needed to speak to the hotel front desk and I decided not to worry about it. When we got there, we asked about view and was given a different option but decided to stay at our original. Great resort.

Have fun!

+1 for USA Transfers. We used them a couple of years ago, so they have been around for a while.

May I ask what building, floor and view did you get?

We were happy with the drivers provided by Cancun Manny for airport transport as well as 2 day trips: http://cancunmanny.com/. Good email communications, prices seemed reasonable, drivers were prompt and polite. Made the mistake of buying supplies at the onsite store - poor selection and overpriced.
