I am buying a 2 BR EOY at Westin Kierland from a friend. His bill for 2026 shows a Club Fee of $207, so he opted out of Abound.
This will be my only week.
Does anyone know if my Club Fees will be the same as the seller's?
Will I be able to opt in to Abound if I want to? (Not planning to at this time.) If so, is there a cost to enroll?
If I decide I do want Abound, can I opt in with my deeded week without giving up my deed?

If you respond, please let me know if you have actually done something like this. I've gotten different responses from people who have been told different things at ownr updates. I'm buying the week regardless of my options, but I do want to know what they are.

Thank you for any insight you have to offer!

Do not believe what you (or your friends) are told at sales meetings (which is what "owner updates" really are). The salespeople lie like rugs in order to make sales, plus, your friends may take what they were told out of context.

$207 sounds about right for the VSN Club fee; you get to pay it every year even though you own an EOY.

It will cost you a minimum of $10K to enroll your week into Abound, and it may not be worth it to you. Kierland comes with transferable StarOptions which permit advantageous trades. For example, if your goal is to trade into Hawaii, StarOptions are usually better and always cheaper than Abound points.

No, I haven't "actually done something like this" (buy my way into Abound; I was grandfathered in), but I have owned Kierland for 19 years and have a pretty good Idea about what I am doing.

We bought WKV 1 bed premium platinum(81,000 SO's) resale 2 years ago and 81,000 SO's Westin Flex resale last year. WKV is a mandatory resort and it can be used within the whole Vistana system but had no access to Abound. The Westin Flex could be used only at all Westins but again no access to Abound. Last year while on an Encore package at Ka’anapali, we did an owners update at Nanea. They put together a package that would allow both our WKV and Flex to be used in Abound. It also gave our Flex full access as StarOptions in Vistana. To do this we bought 37,000 developer Westin Flex. To requal it is $10k for the first one and $5k for the second. So total price of $15k less the $1,500 we paid for the Encore package. The deal also got us to Presidential level. Our WKV has good trading value to Abound (2,600 ClubPoints). Westin Flex is better (2,810 ClubPoints) but the MF's are higher.
I have since transferred 101,000 Westin Flex to Abound which got me a 2 bed villa at Marriott Marbella Beach Club in Spain for next year.

Did you buy 37000 annual or EOY flex options for $15k? That seems expensive for EOY and on the cheap side if annual. Or does that include all the extra fees (title etc)?

Is this a platinum week or other? Regardless, I agree with @vacationtime1 that it’s likely not worth putting into Abound - the SO alone will give you better value given it’s an EOY.

You will not have Abound Club Dues since your resale purchase will not be enrolled in Abound.

You will, however, have an annual VSN fee since you will have VSN membership with StarOptions with your resale purchase. You can opt out, but I would advise not to - StarOptions are valuable, and having VSN access gives you options to book at other VSN resorts with StarOption way more cost effectively than with Abound club points.

Also, only Platinum season WKV weeks with 148,100 StarOptions are worth to own. Lower season weeks have fewer StarOptions for the same maintenance fees - not cost effective.

It was annual. They were anxious to do a deal.
