My family always kids me about my planning so far ahead -- like almost a year in advance. Today I just checked what our 4 nights/5th night free SPG Award, Category 5 standard room would cost if we were paying $$$$:

$678 (all taxes included) PER NIGHT!

My mouth is still touching my foot in shock. Is it true -- people pay this kind of money for high season, top hotels? We are staying there 2/16-21/09. I take back all the unpleasant timeshare comments I have made in the past - :ignore:

Lowest AAA rate for those dates was $496+tax. Not cheap but a little better!

Thats a good use of SPG points at that hotel. It's very expensive to stay there. The location is great.

We used our starpoints to stay 4 nights in one of the westins in Venice. 800 euro /night which at the time was about $1200/night!!

For less money, I'd take this deal offered via our most recent Owner's newsletter:

Owner Exclusive - Sunset Key Guest Cottages, A Westin Resort

There is no such thing as winter cold in Key West, Florida. Feel the warmth of the season when you stay seven consecutive nights between January 3 and February 11, 2009 at Sunset Key Guest Cottages, A Westin Resort, and pay an Owner-exclusive rate of just $429 per night for a two-bedroom garden-view cottage.

WOW!!

I actually won two nights stay at the Southernmost hotel in Key West, staying there next week and extending the trip with a couple nights in Ft. Laurdale using Marriott rewards and one night in Islamorada with HGVC points.

I had no idea the rates typically run that high!

we were in Key West Nov 15 to 22. It was really cold. I had to buy an extra sweatchirt and long sleeved shirt to wear under my jacket. there were thre successive cold fronts. most of the boats didn't go out.
We still had a great time.

Our neighbors stayed at the Hyatt the same week for $275 a night, they had a view of the homeless camping out near their balcony.
