If you are an owner but are not staying at the Westin can you use the shuttle to Lahaina and Whaler's? We are staying at Hyatt Alii this trip. We will be in Kauai for a month with a rental car, then 10 days in Allii. We would like to just do 1 day rentals to get us to the resort and back to the airport. We still have our owners card from May but can't recall what we showed when we got on the van.

The shuttle used to ask for a Room-Key as evidence while boarding the shuttle. Not sure if that is still checked.

I've taken the Maui bus from Whaler's village to Lahaina (Hilo Hattie's drop off and the Wharf drop off). I've also taken the bus up to Napili. IIRC it cost 2 bucks each way. Google Maui Transit Authority. I also took the free green trolley from Marriott Ocean club to Whaler's village (https://kaanapalitrolley.info/schedule). They didn't care where I was staying. https://kaanapalitrolley.info/schedule

If you have a Westin keycard from the resorts there just display it to the driver and you should be fine.

Was at Westin Kaanapali last week and was supposed to show key card to driver. Driver never asked for it though the 4 days we rode the shuttle back and forth.

Nothing is to stop you from showing an old key card if drivers ask.

Thanks everyone. We will give it a try.

We have also done that quite often. You can get all the way to Whaler's Village using 3 Maui buses (Airport-Kahului (#35 or #40 make sure you get the one heading into town) Kahului-Lahaina (#20), Lahaina-Whaler's (#28). If you do that ask for a day pass on the first boarding as that is $4 for unlimited rides v $2 per boarding. The Westin shuttle do check room keys sporadically.

Thanks. We won't have room keys. I still have towel cards and owners card and 500 beach bags saying Westin. Next time I won't return my room key lol. Appreciate bus info

Thank you
You're welcome. The green trolley (see link above) is complimentary for all of the Kaanapali hotels. Apparently others are referring to a special Westin shuttle that may occasionally ask for ID. I've never seen or taken that one.

I don't understand how the Westin Shuttle will get you from the Hyatt to Whaler's Village and Lahaina. The Hyatt and the Westin are at opposite ends of Ka'anapali beach. Also - we used the shuttle in May and they were strict about having a room key. BTW - Whaler's village is an easy walk from the Hyatt along the beach path. But I'm not sure what the Hyatt Ali'i is? Do you mean the Hyatt Residence Club, or the Hyatt Hotel - they are side by side.

Whaler's village & the Hyatt are close but it must be 0.5 miles? I'd walk it, but to each his/her own. I swear I remember a couple of times I got on the still east-bound shuttle at Whaler's intending to head to the west end of Kaanapali. I guess I wanted a seat during a crowded time and figured I could sit on the shuttle or sit at Whalers. Well, I was surprised how many people were waiting at Hyatt for the shuttle and then they got off right there back in Whalers. and maybe we even had to stop at Roy's before getting back to Whaler's. I don't remember, I'd walk the 0.5 mile, esp along the beach, but whatever for whomever

In my world, Ka'anapali Beach runs north and south. The ocean is to the west and the mountains are to the east.

The Westin shuttle doesn't go anywhere near the Hyatt, Marriott or Ka'anapali Ali's. It stops at the Westin hotel near Whaler's Village and then heads either back to Nanea, then WKORV, or down to Lahaina. It no longer stops at the Sheraton.

To take the Westin shuttle from the Hyatt, Marriott or Ka'anapali Ali's, you'd pretty much have to walk to Whaler's Village first.

When we were there in May - the Westin Shuttle dropped us off directly at The Whaler's Village entrance. It also went to the movie theater, and the Outlets of Maui shopping center in Lahaina. The outlets are only a block east of the main drag in Lahaina, so it's easy to get off at the Outlets and walk a block to Front St. I think it went to Safeway as well (Lahaina Cannery Mall.)

Found the map: http://39d6d97ef7fce973c719-f4ee731...ps/assets/u/Shuttle-Schedule-2017-updated.pdf - It looks like the "Sheraton" stop is actually the Whaler's Village Stop.

Alii is right by Whalers Village. We will most likely just take ubers into Lahaina but if we snorkle airport Beach it would be nice to grab a shuttle with all our beach gear. We are staying at Westin Princeville the week prior. Wonder
if their keys look the same? Either way not a big deal. This will be our first time trying without a car so just exploring all options. We spent 5 weeks in Maui earlier in the summer so this will be chill week

I don't think the Ali'i is a Hyatt - do you mean the Ka'anapali Ali'i? Looking at the shuttle rules from the link in post #15 - I don't think they will let you take beach gear on the shuttle.

yeah, I was thinking that, given where the sun sets. I said it that way & tend to think that way because people I know there call the part North of Kaanapali, (Kapalua & past Kapalua) the "West Loop", and yes, it is the northernmost and also westernmost part of the isle. I never heard anyone call Kapalua or the coast past it the "North Shore", even though it is further north than the "North Shore" everyone talks about it. So, my nomenclature, not official compass directions.

The Ka’anapali Ali is now affiliated with Hyatt — at least to the extent that one can stay there using Hyatt points.

I’m not certain as to the extent of that affiliation; many of the units are wholly owned. Maybe Hyatt runs the rental pool?

Interesting!

Unless it's changed again (since last summer) it doesn't stop at either the Westin Hotel or Sheraton Hotel any more, just Whaler's Village and it no longer accepts hotel guests, just villa guests. I believe it was something to do with the hotels not contributing to the expense. One other inconvenience is the shuttle also no longer runs from Whaler's village to Lahaina. To get to Lahaina on the shuttle you have to be at the villas.

We are using Hyatt points at Alii. It is part of the Hyatt Destination Division. Hyatt owns a number of units at Alii but some units are privately owned. Hyatt Destinations owns a number of condo resorts in Maui. There sre 3 in Wailea.

Good to know - thank you!

This is what we experienced earlier this month. There are two routes. I forget which route number went where, but one did a loop between Nanea, WKORV and Whaler’s Village.

The other route ran between Nanea/WKORV and did three stops in Lahaina (Cannery Mall, Outlets and the Wharf).

So yes, to get from Whaler’s to Lahaina (or vice-versa) you would have to go back to WKORV.

There seems to have been a lot of discussion about the Westin shuttle that may require you to show an ID.

But the Green Kaanapali shuttle is a different shuttle and goes from the south end of Kaanapali up to Westin North (roughly). It is free. They don't ask for ID. They don't care where you are staying. I put a link in my previous post. I have taken them from Marriott Maui Oceanclub up to Whalers village, but they make several other stops. The link shows the times and where they stop.

If I wanted to go to Lahaina, I'd take the Maui transit bus. 2 bucks. Google it. IIRC, 2 buses per hour. They don't care where you're staying.

If you're staying at the Westin then maybe their private shuttle is the answer. But if you are staying elsewhere, consider the free Green Kaanapali shuttle and the Maui transit bus.
