We are at our timeshare at Hyatt High Sierra Lodge this week (Incline Village, North Shore, Lake Tahoe.) So far, we are having beautiful spring weather - sunny and no wind - about 70º. Today we are taking it real easy, because Rod is struggling a bit with the thin air in the high altitude (6,250 feet.) He had open heart surgery 6 mos. ago, so it's totally expected, but we don't want to push it. Here are panorama's of their beach, and the renovations done in the kitchen - it looks great!

Resort Update: We learned that the planned renovations of the Hyatt facilities on the beach has been postponed indefinitely, because they couldn't get the permits. Also - We learned that the hotel and casino are up for sale.

I visited that resort 12 years ago. It is just such a beautiful location. Enjoy your ownership

This bear went into a shed and drug out a garbage can. We kept our distance, but there was a woman out in the parking lot who was jumping up and down and squealing, so we figured if he went after anyone it would be her!

Today we took a field trip to the Hyatt Northstar Lodge, which is only about 15 mi. away from the Hyatt High Sierra. It's a beautiful place but it was completely dead, now that ski season is over. They built an impressive village there as well, with shops, restaurants, bars, etc, but it was just about completely closed. We were wondering if it would be a good summer destination, but it was too quiet for us.

We also visited the Club Tahoe in Incline Village, which I see listed for exchange frequently. But frankly, it was a dump and a drive-by told us everything we needed to see.

Northstar is really nice, but High Sierra in Incline Village checks all our boxes (skiing isn't one of our boxes). Whether they retain beach access is a huge question affecting the desirability of the resort, though.

Denise, some of the things that we do when we stay at Northstar include:
1. Wine tasting at Truckee River Winery (they get their grapes from Napa but brew in Truckee. Reservations are needed. Decent wines.

2. The last 2 times we went to Grass Valley area. There are over a half dozen wine tasting rooms along the downtown area. Several of the wines are very good. Cost for a flight is a fraction of what it would be in Napa.

3. Taking a cruise on Tahoe is cathartic and super relaxing. Fun to be in a large boat and enjoy the views.

4. Some of our favorite restaurants on the North shore include Jakes on the Lake and Gar Woods.

5. If you haven't toured it before, the Donner Museum in Truckee is worth visiting. Sobering.

6. If you go to Northstar, you can take the gondola up to the Ritz Carlton. It is kind of fun and very relaxing to stop and get some food and beverage up there. No charge. Doesn't run if there are thunderstorms.

That's fantastic news about the postponement of the renovations. Hopefully HHS will continue to have access to the beach for the forseeable future.

According to Incline sources, the Four Seasons purchased Larry's ownership interest. If that is true then I expect the hotel will eventually be rebranded, though the property and rooms clearly do not currently meet FS branding standards

I read that the beach and renovation project is on hold indefinitely and that the Hyatt is again for sale.

On Saturday, we were told by a staff member at the hotel that the hotel and casino are for sale. The timeshare is a separate entity.

Ditto thanks to @BJRSanDiego for the suggestions! We have a big family gathering in Reno in a couple of weeks, and DH and I are escaping to Northstar for a break in the festivities. We thought the Hyatt would be beautiful and quiet, but not quite as ghostly as @DeniseM noted! :ROFLMAO:

Ellison also sold his interest in the Cal Neva resort & casino in Crystal Bay. I guess he lost interest in Lake Tahoe casino resorts.

@wilma ? Would that be "Larry Ellison" of ORACLE who owns 98% of the island of Lanai?
Yes, he is the current owner of the Hyatt hotel and casino. After he purchased the property, there was talk of him renovating the hotel and possibly not renewing High Sierra's contact for beach access, and perhaps also pool access.

Stream Environment Zone Nature Trail: We took a great little hike today on a loop trail - it was easy and started right behind building 6, across the street, where Incline Creek goes under Incline Way. On the map below, the Hyatt is just to the right of the green area marked "Village Green." So, you cross Incline Way which is behind Bldg. 5 and 6, and go towards the creek, where you will find a path going along the creek. You follow the path along the creek all the way to Tahoe Blvd./State Rte. 28. When you reach Tahoe Blvd. you will be at the back of the college, and on your right, you will see an asphalt parking lot - walk all the way across the parking lot and look to your left, and you will see a paved path up to Tahoe Blvd. Take the path up to street level and walk left along the street. When you pass the visitors center, on your left you will see Third Creek, and a path that takes you down to creek level. Follow the path back the way you came and you will come out on Incline Way, just a short way from where you started. The loop is about 2.5 miles and almost flat along the creek. Even Rod, who had open heart surgery 6 mos. ago, managed it with no issues - it's a great walk.

One thing we enjoy doing whether at home or on vacation is feeding the birds. Now, I know that a lot of resorts ask you not to feed the birds, but the Hyatt even gives you bird seed so you can feed the birds. This morning, a bluejay was eating seed on the railing when he suddenly lay down on his belly, with his beak nearly touching the railing, and let his wings hang down on either side of the rail. It looked so strange! I said, "Rod, what is wrong with this bird?" He said, "I don't know, he looks dead, maybe he choked on the seed?" Then Rod walked over to the sliding glass door for a closer look and the bird lifted his head and stood up. I wasn't quick enough to get a picture of him laying down, but here is a picture of one of the beautiful bluejays that visit us frequently.

what is the water temp? Thinking about Tahoe in 2025. Maybe spring? I've stayed / skied at the Hyatt Northstar. It sure looks different on a ski day and in a blizzard.

The water temp is cold all year round - today the surface water temperature is 46-50º. In August it's in the 60's, but it's never warm. However, that doesn't stop people from going in the water when the air temp is warm. We've seen a number of people in the water this week and quite a few sun bathers, too.

This is our last full day at the Hyatt High Sierra. This morning we had brunch at Sunshine Deli & Bakery: https://sunshinedeli.com/ We like to walk so we walked there - it's a 15 min. walk to the left on Incline Way which is the street at the back of the Hyatt timeshares where we are located. Just past where Incline Way makes a left turn, the restaurant is on the left in a small strip mall.

This is a cute local diner with a nice bakery and great homemade food. This is perfect for timeshare stays, because they have lots of homemade to-go entrees for dinner which can be heated up in your timeshare, if you don't feel like eating out. Not fancy, but good food and a clean, cute environment. The owner told us that they do the catering for Hyatt events. They also have outside seating.

In the past, but not this trip - Rod is recovering from open heart surgery, so we are limiting our walks to 2-3 miles, on flatter terrain.
