We're booked at Welk Escondido for late January. Assuming we might be able to ask for a location, what are the good 2BR units? Also, do the units have a room safe?

As far as room safes go, it depends on which part of the resort you have exchanged into. The original villas (Welk Resort Villas) do not. Villas on the Green and Mountain Villas do. They do have safe deposit boxes at the front desk.

Room location again depends on which section. We own in the original section on broadway hill and love it there, especially facing the mountains, away from the freeway. The top floor units have high ceilings and no one walking above you to disturb you.

Our II confirmation says LW2, unit 165, which I guess is the older resort. Are all three resorts managed as one...in other words...is there a chance of getting them to put us in a one of the new sections? The reviews of the older section are all over the place, from "great" to "we're moving to a hotel".

We stayed in the older section in Sept. Rooms were great, resort is great. No safe in the room.

I can't imagine anyone not liking the older Welk units, very nice layout with basically two master suites on each side of a great room idea.

It's one of my favourite resorts. Never stayed in the newer section, Villa on the Green but I believe the units are smaller and they had more of a condo feel to them from the outside.

The Lawrence Welk Villas (the older section) have been remodeled, so they are in great shape. They are definitely more roomy than either the Villas on the Green or the Mountain Villas. One big difference is they are all 2 BR with no lock-offs.

I think you mentioned you are in unit 165. If that is the case, you are in the Ramona building, which is a smaller two story building that is the first one you come to as you enter this section of the older villas. There are no other buildings immediately by you, but you are on the corner by the main road going to the other portions of the resort villas. Probably not a big issue. One advantage is you have a view over a par 3 on the golf course as well as the towne center where the lobby, theatre and small shopping area are. Pretty centrally located with good access to the various pools on site.

One note, these are fixed week units, so you can't request another unit.

Have a great time! We love this resort and have been going there for 25 years.

Not sure they would all be fixed weeks at this point. Ours was, but we bought into points. So hypothetically, someone could have booked a 2 bedroom for 240,000 points & deposited into II with no fixed unit attached.

Liz, I stand corrected. I forgot about that aspect. So yes, if the room they got was the result of a Platinum Program owner who converted from a fixed week, they might be able to switch. Certainly worth asking about it.

You beat us. We own and have been going for 20 years. We have even traded other timeshares we own to book more weeks. Love this resort and found it the only place I can completly relax time after time again.

To book a 2 bedromm at Welk do you need 240K points, one bedroom 120k points? I don't understand it completely.

The older units which are 2 bedroom, not lock offs, sleep 6 are 240,000 points. The larger one bedrooms in the Villas on the Green or Mountain Villas are 180,000 points. The smaller one bedrooms are 120,000. To book the 2 bedroom lock-offs, sleep 8 in Villas on the Green or Mountain Villas is 300,000 points.
