Would enjoy hearing from all on favorite places to eat in the area around the Weirs Beach/Laconia, NH area. We will be staying at the The Summit for a week. If you have stayed there would be interested to know how you liked it and any recommendations for room assignment.

I don't know this area well (...it's much too far from salt water for me), or when you plan to be there, but at least be advised that Laconia hosts a "Bike Week" each summer. I don't know the 2013 dates, but "enjoying" the presence, noise or "activities" of the Harley Davidson crowd may or may not be your cup of tea.

Our son works in Laconia. We visited him in Feb. and, on his recommendation, ate at Fratellos Italian Restaurant. Definitely recommend it for the great food and atmosphere. Don't know anything about The Summit.

When are you going to be there? We live about 6 miles away and would be happy to give you some pointers!

So first the bad news - Motorcycle week ends June 16th and the Summit basically overlooks ground zero for the festivities. As long as you show up late in the day (on the 15th) you shouldn't be delayed getting up to the hotel.

Although its fun to walk around the Weirs Pier and grab a hot dog I'm not a huge fan of the restaurants in the immediate area.

Some great restaurants within a 10/15 minute drive however are:

Town Docks in Meredith - The food is good but the location can't be beat. Make sure the weather is nice and you can sit outside which is literally on the docks over the water.

Lago (Meredith) - Most of the seating is inside but it also looks right out over the lake. Solid high quality italian food.

Lakeside Deli (Meredith) - Great sandwiches, light entrees etc. Indoor/Outdoor seating all overlooking the water.

Meredith Bay Coffee House - No views but insanely good baked goods and breakfast items. Also very unique lunch items. They get written up in foodie mags a lot. Worth a stop in

Ellacoya Barn and Grill (gilford)- The building is a really cool old barn and the food is solid american traditional. Better on a colder or rainy day. The atmosphere doesn't work if its warm and sunny out!

The Lyons Den (Gilford) - Adjacent to the gilford town docks it has nice views of the water and good food. Not fine dining but a great choice for a casual lunch/dinner.

If you haven't been here before make sure to take a cruise on the Mount Washington out of Weirs Beach. Its a great way to see the lake!

Just realized that I was looking at a 2014 calendar when typing my last post. Looks like you are arriving on the last day of the big bike week party. The rain might quiet things down but if you aren't bike Harley people you might want to consider arriving on Sunday. Saturday night overlooking the Weirs can be VERY loud until 4 or 5 in the morning. Also lots of the bike week visitors stay at the Summit so the parking lots will be full with bikes. Finally the traffic getting to the hotel will likely be pretty crazy all day on Saturday (they actually close down the main road into the weirs for most of the week).

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but I figure better to know now and figure out what you'd best like to do.

Weirs Beach/Laconia NH - The Summit at Four Seasons

Yes - found out that bike week ends the start of our stay. We even received a letter from The Summit (very appreciated) last week that included passes to the property. They will have guards set up at a check point to the property. Letter explained what is going on including best routes to take to the property.

We actually will be in Manchester most of the day on Saturday 6/14 and won't get to the resort until late (9-10 pm). I'm hoping that will make it easier to reach the resort without getting into a lot of traffic. Think we will take route 93 vs route 106 to hopefully avoid traffic around the race track.

I grew up in Laconia but don't get back very often so that is why I asked for recommendations. We are looking forward to going to Sawyer's Dairy Bar for a Lobster roll. Anyone know if they are still open and have you had a lobster roll there? My daughter wants to go to Kellerhaus at the Weirs with her children so they can enjoy making their own ice cream sundaes. She has fonds memories of going there with my parents.

Sunday we are going out early to join cousins in Rye, NH to take a boat ride to the Isle of Shoals. Thinking that it will be best to go by way of Alton and Rochester to get to Rye. Looking forward to getting back to the green.
