So, if you cancel a reservation 61 days before travel, you get all your pts back. BUT if you cancel 60 days before ALL the points, for all the days go into holding.

Could you then shorten your reservation on the back end ( so the points are from days over 61 days before) and those points will not be in holding? Then later cancel the less than 61 day points.

Trigger day is check in day, so anything you do to the ressy <61 days till check in, will land those points in the holding account.

Following is a C+P from the Marriott Destinations-Club website:
NOTE: How Premium Points are treated even when canceled more than 61-Days out.
Also note how points are treated when a reservation is "Shortened" for Owner-Level.

===================================================================

Important Information

  • All cancellations are final. Once canceled, inventory becomes available to other Owners/Members and may not be able to be rebooked or reinstated.
  • When a reservation is cancelled 61 days or more prior to arrival, Club Points are returned unrestricted. However, Owners/Members at the Owner benefit level who used Premium Points to confirm the reservation more than 12 months in advance will have those Premium Points returned in a Holding Account.
  • When a reservation is canceled between 60 days and one day prior to arrival, the Club Points will be returned in a Holding Account, and any Premium Points used to confirm the reservation will be forfeited. If an Owner or Select benefit level Owner/Member modifies a reservation to shorten it to fewer nights than would have been allowed within the window they originally confirmed it, the difference in the number of nights will be returned in a Holding Account.
  • Club Points in a Holding Account may be used to confirm another reservation within 60 days of arrival. Club Points in a Holding Account must be used prior to the end of their current Use Year and may not be banked, borrowed, or transferred to another Owner/Member.

So, if I cancelled a reservation, I cannot re-book the exact same reservation (unit, view, dates) say a day later?

If you cancel a reservation [AND someone has put in a Request for those dates], your canceled reservation can get matched to a Pending-Request and not show up on the website again.

This I understand, the wording originally makes it seem the rebooking is blocked somehow. I missed the word "may"
