So just re-traded from MOC 1BR to New MOC 2BR Island View. This week would cost 4700 points to reserve through the club. Buying these points from MVC at $15 per point with discounts would be $70,500 upfront. Annual MF would be $3,830. Amortize the purchase over 30 years (ha ha), is $2,350. So the annual cost for this week would be $6,180 (remember Island view.)

What did I use for my trade? A Shadow Ridge summer (gold) studio.

Since the fires, it's been uncharacteristically easy to book or trade into the Maui properties. I expect that this will diminish as Lahaina rebuilds and comes back to life over the next few years, right now there are still fewer people choosing to travel to Maui for various reasons.

So I guess that's my long-winded way of saying, congrats on a great trade, but don't get cocky and think this will always work in the future. :)

Short notice I assume but still cool. I know you're happy.

Nice. I think MVC sales are missing a big trick not promoting the usefulness of enrolled weeks, given they still sell them outside and inside the us. Even when selling weeks the pitch is all about points usage and nothing about the "flexibility" of being able to use it across the whole system. Salespeople who entered the workforce in the last 10 years don't even seem to know about how to use weeks in II and the comparison with reservations via Abound, be they good and bad.

Even my silver weeks exchange very well in II as we don't travel peak season and peak locations.

Maui is still in demand, but that demand is lower in recent years post-COVID and post-Lahaina fires. Once Lahaina is rebuilt, I imagine demand will pick back up. We still have several years for that.

Hawaii has also been adding a lot of ‘tourist’ taxes….which is pushing some demand to other locations.

Prior to our MOC week purchase, it was very hard to exchange in via II well in advance of travel for anything larger than a studio. We bought because we wanted a 2 bedroom and wanted reservations early which allowed us to search for reasonable flights. Last minute flights to Hawaii from the U.S. East Coast can be very high….an issue when finally exchanging in via II.

Yea, I know a lot of TUG loves Hawaii, but the taxes and flights are very expensive from NY. I think I'll keep skipping HI and do the long flight to Japan. I can do warm beaches in Florida, or Europe, or the Caribbean or even CA some times in the year for a lot less money. Though I'm not a beach person per se, so any beach is much like any other for me.
