Weeks exchanges vs points (pulling power)

Why do I pull more availability when looking under my RCI points account vs my weeks account for the same time in the same area?

For example, I only pull 3 units under weeks, but then under my points account I pull 2 pages of units.

I'm very new to points, so I don't understand this.

In Weeks, it's all based on the trade power of what you're using to exchange.

With Points, trade power does not factor in and you're supposed to see all that is available. It's a great benefit to actually be able to get into resorts that you might not otherwise be able to trade into with a Weeks trader; however, some of those places require an astronomical number of points for the exchange. Some of them would take two years of my points for the one exchange. Whereas, if you really have a strong Weeks trader and can snag it, then it's week for week. But at least with Points I have the opportunity to get into resorts that I might never have the opportunity to get into with my Weeks traders. I check first to see if I can pull something with my Weeks account first before using my Points account, unless it's within 45 days of check-in when exchanges only require 7500 to 9000 points.

Q are you looking under the Weeks search sections of your points account or the points search section of your points account? I ask this question because I want to know if you are comparing RCI WEEKS ONLY resorts or if you are comparing a resort that is classified as RCI POINTS but has some inventory in the weeks system and some inventory in the points system, based on the fact that only some existing owners converted to the points system.

In general I would say that trade power if the difference.

I search under my points account to find desirable exchanges and then I check with my weeks account to see if I could obtain the exchange with a cheaper week. I shop it around and obtain the trade with the lowest cost unit I have.

There is the situation where you have an RCI POINTS resort that have both weeks and points inventory. In your RCI Points account you will see the points only deposits. You do not have online access to see the weeks only inventory. It might be out there but you would have to call RCI to get it. At least that is the way it used to work. However your RCI Weeks account would see all the week based inventory from the RCI Points Resort.
