I'm an RCI weeks member now and considering adding a points membership to increase flexiblility. I'm an exchanger with flexibility to pick travel periods. I've run across a couple of points packages and wondering what those with more experience think of the idea (seems like others TUGs have done this with similar intent). I think it's only another $10 on top of the weeks annual fee to add the points membership.

What do you think of these:

!)7500 annual points $265.00 main. fee $375 processing/closing $250 RCI enrollment $750.00 purchase price
total for this package which includes first years maintenance fee and first years RCI fee and RCI Points kit would be $1640.00

2)10,000 annual points $120.00 main. fee and same fees as above...purchase price is $1300.00
total for this package which includes first years maintenance fee and first years RCI fee and RCI Points kit would be $2045.00

or are there other low cost entry options, with low annual MF?

Any other erudite advice or guidance taken!

)

How We Took The Points Plunge

Even though we had a perfectly good Floating Diamond 3BR lock-off Orlando FL timeshare & a decent-trading 2BR standard-grade overseas timeshare, last year we started feeling a need for timeshare points -- mainly to get 9,000-point Instant Exchange reservations, but also possibly for partial-week reservations.

So last year we sniped in a winning bid of $152.50 during the closing seconds of an eBay auction for a USA points timeshare. Of course, after we added in closing costs, transfer fees, RCI Points membership, maintenance fees, & all that, the total came out closer to $1,000.

For that we get 15,000 points every year to use any way we want.

Right after our points membership came through, our son went on line (using my RCI account, to which he knows the secret password because I told it to him) 1 minute after midnight the day the 45-days-before-check-in window opened. He snagged a 7,500-point reservation for his pre-Christmas vacation in Orlando FL, leaving us with a balance of 7,500 points. (We listed our son as an official Additional User on our points membership, so there was no extra charge for his guest certificate.)

RCI gave us 4,000 free points as a bonus for making a points reservation within our initial 90 days of points membership. Then we reserved the 1BR portion of our 3BR lock-off timeshare for March 2006 & did Points For Deposit with that. Next we did Points For Deposit with our previously banked 2006 week at our overseas timeshare, bringing our points balance to 84,000.

We thought we would use up some points for our after-Christmas timeshare reservation. But instead of using even 9,000 points (for an Instant Exchange reservation) we took a Last Call reservation for $149 + Zero Points.

If this continues, I don't know how we'll manage to use up our 84,000 points.

The first question I would ask is where these properties are located.

Second, if there are any special assessment due any time soon.

The second option looks good due to a low MF but the number of points are quite less.

I just bought a 27.5k package for a little more than the second option you are suggesting, although the MF is around $275.

Hope this helps.

We bought our package from Scott Riddle. He can be reached at 1-800-mycondo and i believe his web site is www.1800mycondo.com. He sells all size points packages at Rayburn Country Club in Texas. I believe the key to points is to buy with the lowest cents per point ratio in MF.The purchase price is important but not as important as the ongoing maintenance fees.

Then again, if you buy cheap you can pay several years' worth of somewhat higher maintenance fees with the money you saved on your initial purchase.

do points values change?

Do the points values of resorts change over time? Are you at risk that the points you buy now may go down in value say 5 years from now? Are any people seeing that happen? It would obviously impact your MF/Pt ratio.

Many resale websites now have Points resales listed seperately like they have each state listed seperately.

There seems IMHO to be far more availabily and resalers than there was in late 2003 many more choices to better fit personal RCI Points goals.

This week we got our second RCI Point resort registered by RCI to now use as our primary resort for the weeks for RCI Points Deposit program that better fits our needs now that the first does.

Hi Scott! Hi Ira!

Hi Scott - Its the woman with more names than you can keep track of.

About 2 years ago (is that right Scott?) I got a package deal from Scott. It consists of Dikhololo and Rayburn Country Club. Its working great!

This week I snagged one week in a one bedroom at Beach Club Villas. About 6 weeks ago. using my RCi points I snagged a one bedroom for a week at Old Key West. I am thrilled with my purchase!

(I know when you were trying to teach me how to use my points I told you I would never use them for Orlando because I already owned my DVC points! :hysterical: )
