Has anyone had any luck canceling a reservation due to a Hurricane and getting their points back.. Watching 98L Invest and its not looking good for our trip next week.. Got told on the phone today that basically if the resort is closed they would do something, but beyond that "Tough Luck"...

What will be the cancelation policy for timeshare resort located in Puerto Rica?

Pedro,

Of all people, you should know it is Puerto Rico, not Puerto Rica!

To answer your question, the phones aren't working in PR.

In the past, although it's been a few years since I personally had a reservation effected, Wyndham has been very reasonable (cancelling and refunding points).

DVC has a written Hurricane Policy, indicating that owners need to contact Member Services:

From June 1 to November 30, in the event a hurricane warning is issued by the National Hurricane Center for the Orlando area, Vero Beach area, Hilton Head Island, Oʻahu or for the Member's place of residence within 7 days before the scheduled arrival date, the Member may call Member Services at (800) 800-9800† or (407) 566-3800† prior to Check-In to cancel or reschedule, based upon availability, their Disney Vacation Club Resort reservation without any cancellation or modification penalty.

Just call Member Services at (800) 800-9800† or (407) 566-3800† as indicated above. If you were planning on staying at a Member Getaways destination and a hurricane warning is issued for that destination, please also contact Member Services.

PLEASE NOTE:

  • We cannot guarantee availability of similar accommodations for the new travel dates.
  • The policy does not apply to certain special events and dining experiences (e.g., the Member Cruise).
  • This policy pertains to hurricane warnings only. Other weather advisory levels are handled on a case-by-case basis and Members should contact Member Services.

As for Wyndham fixed week owners, you don't get compensated for weather cancellations or and cancellations for that matter. You can't refund a fixed week specific timeframe.. Fix week owners found that out during COVID.

On the subject of DVC, that only applies if its a direct reservation through them. I chatted with RCI about the DVC reservation that's going to be impacted by this and their response was more or less "hope you can swim"..

If the resort is open and the not under a current watch/warning then NO.

If the resort is open, but the resort location has a storm approach and is specificly within the watch/warning area, then Yes, I think its called a Reactionary Refund type. But the resort has to be in the direct warning/watch area. The resort/corporate make the decision to stop taking new guest and getting guest to depart/evaculate ahead of the impending store. You can't decide to not go and ask for that type of refund. It also has to be directly impacting. So it depends on the projected path.

If the resoert is NOT open then Yes you should be able to get points back.

If the hurricane is gone past, the resort is open, BUT you no longer want to go to PR, then NO they will not refund your points.
