We own a fractional unit at Whale Pointe aka Residence Club. Our unit is in building G, and we rotate in every 13 weeks. We picked up an extra week from a delinquent owner and were there in Building I on the 3rd floor from Jan 4 to 11. We just missed the start of the elevator re-construction, thank goodness. They were promising help as needed for luggage and groceries, but a guest with bad knees is more complicated.
They are doing a complete reconstruction/refurbishment, starting with the single elevator that services Buildings I, J, and K, and expect it might take weeks for each one. Then they'll move on to another.
I'm attaching a drawing of the complex - it may help you talk to the staff about other options elsewhere in the resort . Are you there now? If not, when are you supposed to check in?
Thanks for taking the time for your detailed message. We checked in last Sunday, a day late. My sister is joining us today.
There are two flights of stairs to the third floor, for some reason I was thinking there would be three. I guess I was not registering no stairs on the first (ground) floor. My sister insists she will be OK with the two flights, she will hold onto the banister and use her cane. We will carry all her stuff up for her.
The view is so fantastic from the unit, and we have had beautiful Sunny weather, she says she is mostly interested in sitting in the sun and looking at the ocean.
Not an ideal situation, but it sounds like it will work. My sister is not one to make a fuss. If she was in a wheelchair, it absolutely would not work. My other sister is in a chair, so this would not have worked at all.
I understand the complexity of putting us in a different unit. Even though we are Worldmark owner, I exchanged through II using SBP week for this unit. I believe that inventory is separate from Worldmark as they are fractionally owned four week units. I think someone deposited this SPECIFIC unit and week, so changing would have been difficult. Someone really dropped the ball though, calling us on the day of check-in to inform us of this situation.
Thanks to every who responded.
