Northern, CA
Resorts Owned
WKORV, WKV, SDO, Hyatt High Sierra, Dolphin's Cove (Anaheim) NEW: 3 Lawa'i Beach Resort!
We checked into the High Sierra yesterday, and we got a top story, end unit, right on the creek. The end units have a different floor plan and cathedral ceilings, so it seems larger. We actually own this type of floor plan, but our fixed week is in March, so we always exchange it for May or October, and we've never stayed in this floor plan before.

We are here on an II stay this week, so I was thrilled to get such a nice unit and location! At this resort, the front desk communicates with guests via text, so Aug. 22, I texted them and said that we were owners coming in with a II reservation, and we'd like to request a unit on the creek. They responded immediately and said they'd add my request.

One thing I love about this floor plan is that the living area has a lot more light, than the standard unit. Another feature that I really like is that the kitchen has 2 full-length cabinets with empty shelves for the guest's food, etc. So many TS kitchens have no available storage. Two minor negatives: the master bathroom is smaller than the standard floor plan, & the clothes closets are not deep enough for a hanger, but that's true of the standard units too. Isn't that weird, that an architect would design closets that are too shallow??? When you close the closet door the hangers hit the wall in the back and the door in front, as well.

Unfortunately, the cleaning was not up to par, but we always come prepared for that, and I wiped down the kitchen and bathrooms with sanitizing wipes before we moved in. I also ran the dishes that we will use through the dish washer. Incline Village is a very expensive area known for its multi-million dollar lake front homes and high cost of living, so it is pretty amazing that they can find cleaning staff at all - many workers commute from Reno or Carson City every day.

It is supposed to be sunny and clear all week with highs in the 60's so it will be great weather for walking. One day we are going to drive over to South Shore to eat at a restaurant we like, and to do this creek walk: https://visitlaketahoe.com/things-to-do/hikes/rainbow-trail/ The bright red Kokanee Salmon spawn in this creek in October, so hopefully we will see some salmon, and not too many bears! Although, the bears get so full of salmon that they lay around the creek banks like big fat slugs!

We were at Hyatt High Sierra last week. At the weekly owners’ meeting the manager, who is now retiring, discussed the housekeeping situation. Hyatt Vacation Club now uses an outside cleaning company for room cleaning because there was not enough work for full time employees since most changeovers occur on Saturday and Tuesdays. We were glad they did a mid-week trash removal and towel replenish. We had a great week even though the weather was rainy a few days but we still went hiking and kayaking a few times. The relationship with the Hyatt hotel is still weird, the hotel was not crowded and really pretty dead but they still don’t let us use their pool?

They gotta fatten up for hibernation.

Unfortunately, many bears at Lake Tahoe no longer hibernate due to year round access to food and garbage.

Very nice, looks awesome. 🤙🏻

Thanks for the tips. We'll be there in a few weeks! We always love staying there.

Bummer about cleaning but it seems like that is starting to be an issue almost everywhere we go.

For both Denise and klpca -

You may know of these, but just in case you don't, some restaurant tips for the area (was just around there last week and usually spend at least a few weeks in north Tahoe every year):

Rosewood near Raleys - a newer one in the Raley's mall, tried for the first time last week - quite good. Similar quality to Bite, which is another favorite in Incline.

La Fondue is fun to try once during the week you're there, if you like fondue. They have oil dippings for meats in addition to the cheese fondue.

Sage Leaf is good for dinner, or we usually hit it for brunch on the day we leave if on a weekend.

We tried the Osteria in the Hyatt - nice place - food was decent but not as good as we expected and pricey. That was shortly after it opened, so they may have tuned it up more by now.

Haven't tried FUMO or Le Bistro or Austin's close to the Hyatt yet, but they look like they may be worth checking out.

Alibi Ale for a good casual meal, craft brew, and a pleasant setting. And mustache-shaped hot pretzels.

Big Water Grille up the hill a bit near Diamond Peak, we like it for happy hour time drinks plus either snacks or sometimes dinner.

Also, Fall colors are early this year, so it's a good few weeks to be there now for that too.

We leave Friday for a week at Hyatt Northstar, and then a week at Marriott Timber Lodge in So. Lake Tahoe. Really looking forward to it. Denise, what is the restaurant you like there in So Tahoe?

We like the Oyster Bar, but just found out it is closed for renovations.
