- WKORV, WKV, SDO, Hyatt High Sierra, Dolphin's Cove (Anaheim) NEW: 3 Lawa'i Beach Resort!
We checked into the High Sierra yesterday, and we got a top story, end unit, right on the creek. The end units have a different floor plan and cathedral ceilings, so it seems larger. We actually own this type of floor plan, but our fixed week is in March, so we always exchange it for May or October, and we've never stayed in this floor plan before.
We are here on an II stay this week, so I was thrilled to get such a nice unit and location! At this resort, the front desk communicates with guests via text, so Aug. 22, I texted them and said that we were owners coming in with a II reservation, and we'd like to request a unit on the creek. They responded immediately and said they'd add my request.
One thing I love about this floor plan is that the living area has a lot more light, than the standard unit. Another feature that I really like is that the kitchen has 2 full-length cabinets with empty shelves for the guest's food, etc. So many TS kitchens have no available storage. Two minor negatives: the master bathroom is smaller than the standard floor plan, & the clothes closets are not deep enough for a hanger, but that's true of the standard units too. Isn't that weird, that an architect would design closets that are too shallow??? When you close the closet door the hangers hit the wall in the back and the door in front, as well.
Unfortunately, the cleaning was not up to par, but we always come prepared for that, and I wiped down the kitchen and bathrooms with sanitizing wipes before we moved in. I also ran the dishes that we will use through the dish washer. Incline Village is a very expensive area known for its multi-million dollar lake front homes and high cost of living, so it is pretty amazing that they can find cleaning staff at all - many workers commute from Reno or Carson City every day.
It is supposed to be sunny and clear all week with highs in the 60's so it will be great weather for walking. One day we are going to drive over to South Shore to eat at a restaurant we like, and to do this creek walk: https://visitlaketahoe.com/things-to-do/hikes/rainbow-trail/ The bright red Kokanee Salmon spawn in this creek in October, so hopefully we will see some salmon, and not too many bears! Although, the bears get so full of salmon that they lay around the creek banks like big fat slugs!
