I am looking for a good waterproof case to buy in order to protect our phone, passport, money under the water. If someone already buy this product, can you please suggest a good brand.

There is too many similar product listed on Amazon website, not sure which one work best.

Thank you

Will zip-lock bags work well under water during snorkeling?

No, they will slowly leak in my experience. Ok for something that could get a little damp, but not for a phone / electronics.

I agree. I do use zip lock bags as a back up though. What I do is use a Seal Line pack with the contents put it in a zip lock bag as a back up in case the Seal Line pack fails. Seal Line makes different size waterproof bags and packs. I think they still sell them on amazon.

Why would you take a cell phone, passport, or money snorkeling?
I am planning our Maldives trip , we may not have enough money to stay in an expensive resort. Not sure if we can leave our valuable thing at hotel . I am looking to buy the waterproof bag in case we must take our thing with us.

OK. But it strikes me as a solution in search of a problem. It doesn't take an 'expensive resort' to have in-room safes, or putting your valuables in a tote or backpack (in a ziplock) to leave along with towels and stuff on the beach or dive boat along with a trusted 'watcher'.

Maldives sound like a darn interesting trip anyway. Have fun.

uop, I wouldn't take those things snorkeling--esp. the passport. Try to use the safe in your room or sometimes you can place it in a safe at the front desk where you should get a receipt.

We are big fans of Aquapac, whether we're hiking at home, swimming at a resort pool, or snorkeling off a deserted island. No sense leaving stuff behind to get stolen. And then there's the weather. We nearly lost 2 phones when a sudden shower drenched us while bicycling on Hilton Head a few years back, but were saved by a ZipLoc. Now we make a point of bringing decent dry packs wherever we go.

Amazon sells the Aquapac Keymaster for about $15. It's the perfect size for rental car key, credit cards, driver's license, hotel key, and cash. We use a 2nd one for stowing our Nikon point and shoot. Larger and cheaper versions are available but Aquapac has been around for years. I think they developed their product for kayakers.

P.S. I agree to leave anything you won't need (e.g. passports) in the hotel safe.

We use Lifeproof cases for our iPhone's. They work very well but, I don't believe I'd use them to take my phone snorkeling. While I trust them for everyday use I'm not trusting them enough to intentionally submerge our phones in the ocean.

Dry Pak brand waterproof cases have worked for us. The cases come in different sizes (small enough for room key cash and spare camera batteries, up to ones large enough for a text book) In case you are curious as to the text book size, had it along for SCUBA class certification and wanted it to stay dry. Smaller ones have lanyards, larger ones are fitted with grommets on corners to hook with carabiner. Used the smaller one at the Soggy Dollar Bar and my dollar wasn't soggy!! :whoopie:

I've been using a $10 waterproof case that I bought at Amazon. It's several times as thick as a ziplock bag, and the locking mechanism at the top is more secure.

It has worked well, except for the one time I forgot to put my phone in it. After about 10 minutes of swimming, I realized my iPhone was still in the pocket of my swim shorts, and the case was up on the beach with our stuff. The phone was toast. Tried putting it in a bag of rice for 2 days. Nothing. Apple replaced it for a fee.

The touch screen doesn't work very well through the case, and the pictures aren't as vibrant. But it does a good job protecting the phone.

I use Otterbox for my iphone. Works like a charm...:)

I second that. Love the Otterbox. It comes in several sizes. I have a larger one that I use most. Hardshell Clear case. I also have a smaller sized one that I like when I carry less. I usually put my stuff in a freezer ziplock bag first (extra protection) then I place it into the Otterbox. It has clip locks and a rubber seal. Easy to open and close. I have never had a wet item inside.

I also have some of the DryPak pouches (soft case) they work well for swimming and float too!

You can get the water protective cases on ebay or Amazon for a decent price.

Cynthia T. :)
