We are going to this golf tournament in Scottsdale this upcoming week. Just curious if any Tuggers have been there, and any tips you can give about going there.

Yes and No. We'll be in the area in a week but not at the WM open. We're going to be at Canyon Villas (Marriott) starting Sunday the 4th for a week. If there are any Tuggers staying at the CV that week, it would be fun to have an informal TUG get together.

DW and I will be there on Thursday or Friday. We pay valet parking at the Fairmont Scottsdale for easy in and out parking. I believe it was $20. I usually look for player tee times and try to find a grouping of 4-5 golfers I want to get close-up views of players and grab a spot by the tee box and stay there for an hour of so and see the groupings come thru. Then we walk the course for a couple of hours watching our favorites. After lunch (lots of food and drink areas) we make our way to the stadium hole #16 for the atmosphere. We then head to the 18th green and watch players finish their round.

Thank you for the tips! We are planning on going there tomorrow for the free admission day to check things out.

We will be at Canyon Villas for a week starting on Feb 10th, so our overlap will be on Feb 10th, with your check out on the 11th. We are driving there. Our first time there, in the past we stayed at Westin Kierland.

Thanks for the reply. It doesn't look like that will work as we may be leaving on the morning of the 10th.
BTW, there is an art show in large tents about 5 miles east of CV. In the past we get free tickets from the concierge. It is a load of fun and you can talk to the artists. They have a gourmet food station (incl wine and beer) at the art show. It can easily take 2 to 3 hours to see everything.

Thank you for the tip on the art show. Do you know when they are having the show?

It goes on for about 2 months. It started a week or two ago and continues into March IIRC. If you google it and/or talk to the concierge, you can get all the info.

I know this is a company sponsor, but couldn't they come up with a better name than "Waste Management"???

Well, contrary to the name, Denise, the event is 100% "recycle" if that is the correct term. I'm a local and generally volunteer for the event. This year, I've been out of town for my son's wedding.
Apparently the Phoenix Open is the most popular with fans. It has the highest attendance of any PGA tournament if I'm not mistaken. Sunscreens and dressing for cover are important. Also, going easy on the alcohol and keeping hydrated.
Since I normally volunteer, I don't have a lot of tips. The number of volunteers there is amazing! All proceeds are used for Special Olympics, College scholarships and other worthy causes. They raise a lot of $$ :)

We just returned home after a week in Scottsdale, with four of those days at the tournament. We will certainly return and would consider volunteering sometime.

That was the noisiest crowd! We watch golf on TV alot when we are home. We were rooting for Lefty, oh well. He had a good week.

We refuse to go to PGA tournaments because of the crowd but enjoy going to LPGA tournaments where you do not need to jostle.

This was our first PGA tournament. Normally I can't take crowds but we just stayed away from the "rowdy" areas and avoided the place on Saturday.
